You are literally the first person I've ever anywhere online, offline, casual or professional reviewer who didn't rate Ibushi Naito as 4 1/2* upwards. Different strokes for different folks I guess

    Personally I was blown away

( ?_?) - 97% of PW suddenly think Michael Cole is awesome. If you're part of the 3% that still thinks he is an annoying tool, copy & paste this into your sig.

I've been aware for a long time how my mood affects my evaluation of pro-wrestling matches, and this might be the most striking example.

I watched the first three matches last night, when I was in a good mood and pumped for some rasslin'. I even enjoyed a Goto match! Then I got tired, got too little sleep, woke up in the morning, watched the two main events while not fully awake, and found them both underwhelming. I think my physical/mental state had a lot to do with not rating the matches very highly. Something to avoid in the future.

    Pumped for tomorrow's show

We have Juices debut, against the always solid Kojima

We have Yano vs Okada and the potential for a shock, chaos Vs Chaos

We have Elgin Tonga. If Tonga is ever gonna have that first great match, Elgin is a likely candidate

We have Sanada vs Evil, which will be very, very interesting. Both guys will look to prove they are the breakout star

And ofc, Omega Vs Suzuki. If you aren't excited for that then you probably aren't alive. I predict a Suzuki win

( ?_?) - 97% of PW suddenly think Michael Cole is awesome. If you're part of the 3% that still thinks he is an annoying tool, copy & paste this into your sig.

Juice vs Kojima is the equivalent of YOSHI-HASHI vs Nagata. Improving up and comer hoping to prove himself against grizzled veteran. I don't see Juice playing the part as well as YOSHI did, but should be a good match.

I'm equally as excited for Yano vs Okada as I am for Omega vs Suzuki. I haven't seen a Toru Yano singles match in forever and I need my fix.

Sanada vs Evil was easily MOTN, really great stuff and Sanada screams top babyface

Suzuki disappointed yet again, but yet again(like the Okada match)I think it was more his opponents fault than his

I love Omega but this is his dark side. Leg is being worked over by a monster, but he has to get those 9999 V Triggers in

Sanada vs Evil was my MOTN as well. I agree with HF about Omega's selective selling. Suzuki also moves like a piece of plywood. Thought it was a good match though. That reverse hurracanrana looked like a botch that they covered half decently. Would have been worried for Suzuki taking that move on the top of his head. I liked Block A's opening night better. Naito is my personal favorite in this whole tournament.

To be fair, Suzuki is about 50 now. Apart from Jericho maybe, there really isn't anyone who can move as well as he does at that age. Just look at the guys drop kick

Elgin & Okada was outstanding. The G1 is the best event in wrestling.

Can't wait for 8/12: Okada/Omega III and the death of Toru Yano.

I was away all weekend but I somehow managed to catch up with three shows in under two days.

Ibushi vs Sabre Jr. was fantastic. Great fiinish. Sabre is the man to watch for me. His matches are so different from the norm that you can't go wrong. It's easy to get sick of the constant near fall spam matches. Toru Yano is the same, but his two matches have not been up to his usual standards. Kojima basically had a normal match with him, which is a good achievement for Kojima to avoid all of the usual Yano tuff, but it wasn't very interesting. At least the finish was awesome. The master thief never runs out of tricks.

Anyone watch Tama Tonga vs Kenny Omega? It was very interesting. Tonga jumps Omega before the bell and rips off his Elite shirt. In the match he grabs a mic and says "Either you're with The Elite or you're with the Bullet Club!" Unfortunately the crowd didn't give a fuck, Kenny Omega wins, he taunts Tonga after the match, then they hug it out. All that for nothing?! I'm not sure. It's also notable that Kenny Omega did a dive despite Takahashi and Chase Owens telling him no. He dived onto both of them (and Tonga). Mutiny in the Bullet Club could be happening.

I liked both Omega matches. Suzuki didn't do an awful lot of leg work so Omega spamming V-Triggers like he always does didn't bother me. I thought it was a well-constructed match. Suzuki vs SANADA was really good as well. Suzuki tends to impress in G1 matches, but disappoints in other big singles matches.

Tonga vs Elgin was surprisingly good, and had a great finish. Okada vs Elgin is match of the tournament so far. Nothing has come close. Looked like Okada's toughest battle of the year apart from his two matches with Omega. Elgin nearly had him down for the count on many occasions.

Thought the story being told for the Tonga/Omega match was pretty cool. I liked the trash talk and how Omega was kicking him down like a peasant after the match.

Omega vs Yano was so bloody stupid it was awesome and it started with Omega legit forgetting to bring out his belt...."I can't believe I forgot the belt, how does that happen. Jesus Christ! Im gonna be in trooooooouble" . Besides Elgin and Okada being my favorite match, I think Tana/Nagata comes second for me, thought it was awesome

EDIT: Double post was an accident!

Yano's schtick is so good for the G1. For one, it's a nice change of pace in the midst of serious matches. Two, his going for low blows and cheap quick wins makes all the sense in the world in the G1, where you're trying to get from match to match with as little damage as possible. The whole reason for the schtick is that he's trying to win, and that's what makes it so good. I love a good comedy match as much as anyone, but if he wasn't trying to win matches, I think it would get tiresome. The fact that he's essentially Bugs Bunny is really good stuff.

Ibushi vs Naito is still the best match, and after that you could put one of a few matches

    Elgin vs Okada
    Ibushi vs Ishii
    Ibushi vs Zack
    Tana vs Nagata
    Sanada vs Okada
    Sanada Vs Evil

    Among others, it's been a brilliant G1

P.s. A lot seemed to have hated it, but I LOVED Omega Yano

( ?_?) - 97% of PW suddenly think Michael Cole is awesome. If you're part of the 3% that still thinks he is an annoying tool, copy & paste this into your sig.

Currently Playing: Suikoden 1, Max Payne 1, Beyond Good and Evil, MGS Peace Walker

God so many matches to catch up on here. G1 is producing hours of great matches. Feel like this is another golden era of puro.

I knew Omega would play up to Yano's silliness, but by no means was I expecting him to work a full CHIKARA/DDT style comedy match. That was amazing. It does raise questions about whether one of the top stars should be doing things like that, but it's so much fun that I don't care.

Okada/SANADA was a worse version of Okada/Elgin. Pretty much the same finish too. I've noticed some of the guys recycle their matches in this tournament (Nagata is another).

What's everyone's thoughts on the English commentary? When Kevin Kelly and Don Callis first hit the scene, I thought they were terrible, but they've been significantly better in the G1. They've done their homework, Callis is more familiar with the product, and they do a good job. Not great, but good.

I like them. Probably my favorite commentary team right now. Not like there's much competition though.
