Default Are You The "Wrestling Guy"?

I've always been of the mindset to never reveal that I'm a wrestling fan. Had some bad experiences doing so. Requested a day off work to go see NXT when they went to Columbus the first time. I told the boss why and didn't lie. He thought I was joking. I think he lost respect for me. Also a coworker at said job would throw out references and stuff. I figured anyone who knew what an Octopus Hold was had to be a smark like me. I let my guard down and then he gave me the look. NEVER AGAIN!

In middle school that wasn't the case. Crotch chops, wrestling shirts & begging for the rare chance to blurt out IT DOESN'T MATTER~!! was basically a reference to who I was. Even once wrestling stopped being cool among my friends, they knew I still hung on and I became the wrestling guy. Anything related to wrestling I was the person to ask. Did you hear? Whatever happened to?

    Were you? Are you still?

When I was going through school everyone watched wrestling.

I drifted away from wrestling around 2002, and started watching regularly again around 2005 when I was about 22. Didn't really discuss wrestling much apart from a couple of guys I worked with who I knew were wrestling fans. Since I've turned 30 have been quite open with most people I've met/worked with about watching. Don't overly get judged for it, mainly just get asked "Is Undertaker still wrestling" followed by "Didn't they change the guy who played Undertaker" - when I say no it's usually met with "Yeah they did"

Yeah, I don't hide that I'm a wrestling fan from anyone. Never really comes up much though.

I never hide it, but I never have any reason to bring it up. I have come to find that the people that hate wrestling for being fake also like reality shows, so it is fun to piss those people off by reminding them that pro wrestling was the original reality show (pretends to be real, but is fake and scripted).

I don't hide it anymore. I don't care. Everyone has ' something ' - I own it. But I don't wear wrestling shirts or buy toys or really, there's very little in my house to say I'm into wrestling.

I'll post photos on facebook if I go to a WWE show - and funnily, people ask about it sincerely.

I actually found a lot of people who watch wrestling. WWE has decent coverage in Australia on subscription television and for the better half of 20 years has been a flagship program on Foxtel's FOX8 channel and as a result, a lot of people casually tune in.

In my friend group, I'm always the "wrestling guy" and the "metalhead guy". I'm constantly getting tagged in stuff on facebook with anything related to those two.

I went to school way back in the 80's! They learned me real good back then. Anyway, it seemed like I was the only one who watched wrestling in my school. I found 1 or 2 other fans and it was like the only thing we had in common. Apparently, wrestling was like porn back then. A billion dollar industry that nobody watched

Yeah, I don't hide it anymore. I did when I was in high school, but a few years after I graduated I just stopped giving a shit. I always loved it the most out of my friends, which was a good source of ridicule from them towards me. There are a handful of people I talk to at work about it, but they're all over the age of 40. I sporadically see younger kids, usually mentally challenged (disclaimer, nothing against older people or handicapped people here) wearing Cena or Roman shirts come into the store I work at and always make a point to compliment them.

Yeah, I'm definitely "the wrestling guy."

Wrestling never comes up in conversation so I have no need to ever bring it up. PW is the only place where I talk about it. Not out of shame. If I met someone who had an interest in wrestling, I'd tell them I am a fan. I suspect pro-wrestling is a lot less popular in the UK than it is in the US, and I get the impression it's pretty unpopular over there.

Yeah, I was all through High School, until I moved and went to another high school and o wasn't.

Now I wrestle..and the promotion I wrestle for is also at my workplace..people ask me about it all the time. They don't understand it isn't MMA though.
