Default Roman Reigns vs The Undertaker

Well it's official. The Undertaker's opponent for Wrestlemania isn't a bad guy. He's not a good guy. He's THE GUY, ROMAN REIGNS.

How do you feel about this decision? What do you expect from this match? What do you want to see/not see happen? Do you care?

Reigns is great, but I think I would enjoy Reigns vs Taker less than I would if Taker and Strowman had a 10 minute bombfest spectacle. But perhaps my lack of faith in Taker is unwarranted. Either way, I'm optimistic. I still expect this to be the best Taker match since he faced CM Punk.

I'm just waiting for Wrestlemania 34 when they give us Roman Reigns vs Isis, and somehow Isis will still be a more appealing option to cheer for.

It'll probably be Roman vs. Shane... if not Rock or Cena.

What Taker should have done given his options:

I'd honestly root for anything over Roman at this point. No top face, not even Cena, has been wholesale rejected as hard as him, yet they're gonna give him the honors of retiring Undertaker (which I'm saying with certainty because I don't see Undertaker sticking around for more appearances.) and there's a solid 95% chance they're gonna keep pushing him as a face when he does it. This could be the catalyst for one of the biggest top heels ever, and Vince will stick his fingers in his ears and go "LALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU GODDAMMIT!"

I didn't watch Raw so I don't know the direction this is going, but I wish I could believe this match is them going in on Roman being a heel... but up to now they're refused so who knows. For the record I've wanted this match.

    This is all that happened:
    -Strowman called out Roman.
-Roman's music hit but was interrupted by Undertaker's.
-Undertaker stared down Strowman until he backed out of the ring and left.
-Roman came out to face Undertaker, said "this is my yard now," just like he did at the Rumble.
-Both of them looked at the Wrestlemania sign.

So Roman made Undertaker mad by eliminating him at the Royal Rumble, Undertaker decided he wants to fight Roman because of it, Roman accepted.

It's not Cena vs. Undertaker, but it's the closest we'll ever get. Because Vince McMahon is craven and misguided in his old age.

Roman is now fully Cena 2.0. He's not Roman Reigns, he's "Whether you love him or hate him" Roman Reigns. He's "as long as they're reacting" Roman Reigns.

It's everything you expected to happen. It's not even worth generating emotions over.

Roman will get booed monstrously, and it will be hilarious seeing everyone so angry about it, and watching WWE and anyone in their periphery justify it and tell fans how wrong they are.

*sigh* It's like watching Rome burn. I love it.

It's like if Rome burned but were more richer and powerful than ever at the same time.

I read a stat the other day that the WWE posted a loss equal to NJPW's profits for the year of 2015 or 2016 (can't remember which). It's bonkers how much money they make and is what allows them to get away with shit like this match.

They just don't care. They want Roman to retire The Undertaker so that's what is going to happen, crowd and fan reaction be damned.

You missed the "Undertaker chokeslams Roman to an ovation rarely heard outside of Steve Austin in the Attitude Era."

Oh fuck, of course. My bad.

Yeah...Undertaker punks Roman in front of CHICAGO and the WWE is like "It's going to be so good when Reigns wins at Wrestlemania."

What if in the biggest plot twist, Taker actually beats Reigns at WM triggering a heel turn.

I've been holding off on officially saying it, but I'm starting now.

Roman Reigns is never turning heel.

This match (and the obvious result of Reigns going over to monstrous boos whilst the WWE says "controversial but he always gets a reaction!) is the epitome of everything wrong with the WWE

There are almost no words. I certainly can't summon them

( ?_?) - 97% of PW suddenly think Michael Cole is awesome. If you're part of the 3% that still thinks he is an annoying tool, copy & paste this into your sig.

Currently Playing: Suikoden 1, Max Payne 1, Beyond Good and Evil, MGS Peace Walker

Woah dude. No way, that can't be right. NJPW would struggle to make that in gross revenue.

WWE made big money last year and they will make big money this year too. If they can get their house attendance together they could make record numbers.

I think you misread RT's post, Todd. Or maybe I did. I remember Meltzer on Austin's podcast saying that NJPW makes about 1/20th of the money WWE makes. Assuming that to be true, WWE lost about 5% of their revenue (or whatever the right word is. I'm not good at business talk). Any loss is bad, but it's not massively significant.

Revenue would make sense, it was the word 'profits' that threw me.

Yeah, I read that initially as New Japan made an overall profit for the year of $X and WWE made an overall loss of -$X. So it is that WWE's revenue went down from the previous year by the same amount as the total revenue of New Japan?

Not surprising that WWE could take a huge loss and not break a sweat. There's no suitable competition that could be the #2 in the US. As for Reigns, would turning heel even matter at this point? You couldn't even be sure that his heat would be legit.

Worth mentioning too that recent years of losses (2014, maybe 2013?) were basically all down to Network infrastructure spend, which they are now reaping the rewards from. The Network and TV are hugely successful enterprises still. Live house is down the toilet however.

This match is a terrible idea. They should've done Roman Reigns vs Braun Strowman instead.

The Undertaker shouldn't be wrestling. Enough already! Just retire.

And Roman Reigns defeating The Undertaker at Wrestlemania takes away from Brock's victory - but he's totaly winning, and the fans will love it (sarcasm).

    I meant revenue and misspoke.

In 2015 NJPW's revenue was about 29 million dollars. The year the WWE launched the Network (2014) they posted a loss of 30 million dollars.

I can't find the link anymore but I just mentioned it to put into perspective how much more profitable the WWE is compared to their competitors. Like it isn't even in the same galaxy. I know most people realize this already but it's still worth mentioning when talking about why the fuck they would do a match like this and ignore literally everything they know.

I thought it was interesting that Strowman said to Reigns "Chicago doesn't like you, and neither do I". Sounded like the kind of line a face would say to a heel. It kind of threw me a bit.
