Probably one of the greatest comeback years ever in wrestling. Definitely deserves the honor.

AJ has been killing it since 2014.

In saying that, it's well deserved. Not only has AJ won the PWI Wrestler of the Year, he was also voted the Lou Thesz Wrestler of the Year in the Observer Awards. He's fantastic to watch and I'm so glad he's been able to prove himself on the biggest stage.

I always forget that there is the PWI 500 and a WOTY award for PWI. Am I right in the 500 being from the period June-May and this is a calendar year award? Also, is this voted on by the readers of the magazine, while the 500 is done by the writers?

They picked the only word necessary - 'landslide'. The best wrestler in the world and, barring injury or significant drop-off, will be again this year.

Much deserved. Shouldn't have even been a debate this year and it sounds like it wasn't.

    Kenny Omega 2017, pls.

Inaccurate. I kind of thought it was slightly overrated, his match with Nakamura at Wrestle Kingdom was pretty good.

I'm not sure what you're trying to tell me with this post. Am I supposed to take that website as gospel? His best match with NJPW happened in 2016, which is the year we're talking about, then Styles went to the WWE less than a month after that and almost all his matches are rated 4+ stars from the same site you linked me to: http://www.cagematch.net/?id=111&vie...&sorttype=DESC

Well you said that he didn't do anything with his career for 3 years before he came to the WWE. And you basically said that anything outside North America and doesn't get broadcasted on mainstream TV, doesn't count, isn't interesting, isn't entertaining and doesn't matter.

Oh, my bad. I was being sarcastic with my post.

Naito is my 2016 wrestler of the year, but AJ Styles is a close second. And he's #1 in WWE by a mile. Styles had a kayfabe better 2016 than Naito, so it makes sense.

I think it's a good pick. Put it this way: Who else deserves it? To be honest, nobody else really comes close...

Yeah, it's the right man. Some guys in NJPW were terrific, but AJ was phenomenal

After his matches with Okada and Ishii, Kenny Omega has to be the runaway winner this year so far

( ?_?) - 97% of PW suddenly think Michael Cole is awesome. If you're part of the 3% that still thinks he is an annoying tool, copy & paste this into your sig.

Currently Playing: Suikoden 1, Max Payne 1, Beyond Good and Evil, MGS Peace Walker

Yeah, unless he gets hurt, he started so fucking hot that I cannot see anyone topping him. Plus, there is still the Okada rematch that is inevitable and Super Juniors.

Agree with 2016 being the year of Styles. His transition was flawless and his character is the best it has ever been. He was good in TNA and Bullet Club, but WWE allowed him to be great.

Styles had arguably the best matches of his career in TNA and especially in NJPW. He was already great, the WWE just capitalized on it.

Omega won't be competing in the Super Juniors. Dude's a heavyweight now.
