    Default All time team tournament!

I have an idea to help us get through the offseason , and it could end up being a remarkable success and a lot of fun or an all out failure but what the hell - I think it could get some interesting discussion going and take up a lot of time.

I want to take all 32 teams , form a basic roster (offense and defense) and coach and put them together against each other in a 32 team tournament. I'm going to go through the history of each team to construct the basic roster of players who played for them and seed it 1-32 and see which franchise we think would win. If that makes sense.

Anyone down to tackle a few teams for me along the way? @The Real LT , @The Show , @HR @Baker?

I'm doing the Packers - don't anyone even try it.

    Teams done:
    Packers
    Giants
    Texans
    Vikings
    Bengals
    Raiders
    Jaguars
    Redskins
    Lions
    Bears
    Patriots
    Buccaneers
    Falcons
    Chiefs
    Cowboys
    Ravens
    49ers
    Browns
    Rams
    Oilers/Titans
    Colts
    Steelers
    Eagles
    Chargers
    Saints
    Bills
    Seahawks

    C - Frank Winters
    OG - Josh Sitton
    OT - Chad Clifton
    WR - Don Hutson
    WR - Sterling Sharpe
    TE - Mark ChMura

    DE - Willie Davis
    NT - Gilbert Brown
    DE - Aaron Kampman
    OLB - Clay Matthews
    MLB - Ray Nitscke
    MLB -AJ Hawk
    OLB - Dave Robinson
    CB - Herb Adderly
    CB - Bob Jeter
    FS - Willie Wood

    P - Max McGree
    KR/PR - Desmond Howard

    Coach: Vince Lombardi

    NY Giants All-time team.

QB-Eli Manning (Depressing I know, but it is what it is)
RB-Tiki Barber (excuse me while I puke)
    FB-Maurice Carthon
    OT-Rosey Brown
    OG-Chris Snee
    C-Mel Hein
    OG-Ron Stone
    OT-Jumbo Elliot
WR- Odell Beckham Jr. (yes already)
    WR-Amani Toomer
    TE- Mark Bavaro

    DE- Michael Strahan
    NT-Jim Burt
    DE- Leonard Marshall
    OLB-Carl Banks
    ILB-Sam Huff
    ILB-Harry Carson
    OLB-Lawrence Taylor
    CB-Mark Collins
    FS-Emlen Tunnell
    SS-Landon Collins
    CB-Corey Webster

    K-Lawrence Tynes
    P-Sean Landeta
    KR-Dave Meggett

    Coach- Bill Parcells.

As expected the Giants are DEEP in their front-7 but a little thin at wide receiver and defensive back. I thought O-line might be a problem but it's actually pretty solid.

Landon Collins , is the Giants safety position that thin throughout history? That would be incredible , he had a great year and everything but dayum.

Also I like the idea of adding a return specialist - not so sure about a gunner though.

    Houston Texans

    QB - Matt Schaub
    RB - Arian Foster
    FB - Vonta Leach
    WR - Andre Johnson
    WR - Deandre Hopkins
    TE - Owen Daniels

    OT - Duane Brown
    OG - Chester Pitts
    OC - Chris Myers
    OG - Jeff Allen
    OT - Eric Winston

    DE - JJ Watt
    DT - Gary Walker
    DE - Mario Williams

    OLB - Jadaveon Clowney
    MLB - Demeco Ryans
    MLB - Bryan Cushing
    OLB - Whitney Mercilus

    CB - Dunta Robinson
    CB - Johnathan Joseph
    FS - Daniel Manning
    SS - Marcus Coleman

    K - Kris Brown
    P - Donnie Jones
    KR/PR - Philip Buchanon

The Texans can actually field a pretty impressive roster despite their short history , the offensive line is going to me a major concern for them in the tournament though. They have some pretty good depth though , I tried to make room for Jamie Sharper but figured at the end of the day I was going to end up having to put him on the Ravens anyways so I put Cushing there instead. Watt , Wiliams , Clowney & Mercilus is a hell of a pass rushing to throw at any team though.

I thought about putting Terry Kinard or Antrel Rolle on there, but their best years weren't even close to Collins last year. He should have won DPOY IMO.

Emlen Tunnell is the best safety the Giants have ever had. Collins already is the second best.

Also I'll take the gunner off, Reyna Thompson was awesome at it though.

That's quite incredible considering how long the Giants have been around. I'm finding a few teams have glaring holes throughout their history when compared to some other teams where it's hard to leave guys off.

The Packers defensive line , once I took out Reggie was a little thin which is why I decided to go with a 3-4 defense for them. I could of put three quarterbacks and 12 receivers on the roster though.

The Bengals were incredibly thin across the board aside from maybe RB and WR ... they had a lot of OT's as well. It was tough leaving Willie Anderson off. I thought about cheating Whitworth to guard since he had played there before.

Feel free to change your mind up until the tournament starts. I think I might go back and make some changes with guys who played for multiple teams.

I just did the Raiders as well so there will have to be some compromising. I guess Bo at Fullback would work , and I thought about it but I think Christensen would give them far more versatility.

Our corners are completely different but I'd be more than willing to go Hayes/Woodson.

Rod Woodson is a Steeler , and the Raiders have plenty of safeties to choose from anyways.

Desmond Howard is a Packer. Woodson can certainly return for the Raiders though.

As expected the Skins were extremely deep at O-line and pretty good at WR and Defensive back. They are IN
CREDIBLY thin at defensive tackle which was highlighted further by the number free agent flops they've signed at the position.

EDIT- the Jaguars need a coach, I would go with Tom Coughlin

The Lions actually field a pretty credible roster as well despite their history , I would consider them more balanced than some of the other more successful franchises out there. Almost makes it even sadder that they have been such the lovable losers. Seriously though Barry Sanders/Calvin Johnson/Herman Moore is a hell of three headed monster.

Oh yes , definitely Coughlin. The Redskins are SO thin at defensive tackle. They are going to get run on all day.
@CM Punk'd - I made some changes to my Raiders team , some compromises on both parts. Let me know what you think?

Atkinson's a good choice. To me, outside of Tatum, Atkinson, and Woodson, there aren't too many notable Raider safeties out there. Burgess Owens, Van McIllroy, and Dwayne O'Steen won titles with them, but they didn't really stand out individually.

The Bears were incredibly tough , I didn't know what to do with their defense in order to fit their best front seven so I made them into a 3-4 in order to get Butkus and Singeltary on the field along with Dent and Hampton at the end spots. Perry would fit at NT as well.

I would of kept the Bears in a 4-3 and put Doug Atkins in at one of the end spots and put Hampton as my 3-Tech. Wibur Marshall's career was split pretty even between the Bears and Skins, and the Skins need the help at linebacker a lot more than the Bears do. Between Butkus, Singletary, Briggs, and Urlacher they are pretty well covered at LB, and frankly ALL of them were better than Marshall. Not to mention either Butkus or Urlacher would raise hell playing Otis Wilson's spot in the 46.

Between Butkus, Singletary, Briggs, and Urlacher they are pretty well covered at LB, and frankly ALL of them were better than Marshall. Not to mention either Butkus or Urlacher would raise hell playing Otis Wilson's spot in the 46.
Yeah I tried it many ways , I just figured the Bears strength is their linebackers and I wanted to get as many of them on the field as possible without cheating by putting Singeltary and Urlacher on the outside. I didn't want to leave Atkins off , and really I would of loved an out to put him at OLB instead of Marshall.

So the front seven looks like this?

    DE - Richard Dent
    DT - Dan Hampton
    DT - William Perry
    DE - George Atkins

    OLB - Briggs
    MLB - Butkus
OLB - Otis Wilson? Bill George?

The part about that which hurts is leaving Singeltary off , because we ain't leaving Butkus off.

Looks good , except I think Harrison is going to end up a Charger when it's all said and done.

He's on both teams 50th anniversary team , but played in San Diego for 9 seasons compared to 6 in New England. He won the Super Bowls in New England but 2 of his 3 1st team all pro's came as a Charger and both his pro bowl seasons came as a Charger.

Luckily you have a pretty damn good replacement in Lawyer Milloy.

Also I think Brushci has an argument over Nelson. I'm not going to argue too hard for it though , Bruschi was a key member of title teams though.

Nick Buoniconti is a REALLY tough call as he was awesome for the both the Pats AND the Dolphins and spent roughly equal time with both. This is one that might have to go on both teams. If not, Tedy Brushchi would be a good replacement.

The part about that which hurts is leaving Singeltary off , because we ain't leaving Butkus off.
The Bears are so deep at linebacker that several great ones will likely be left off. Just at MLB alone you have to pick between Butkus, Singletary, and Urlacher.

I didn't know we could only go with one player per team deal.

Nelson far more accomplished than Bruschi as a pro. Nelson's number is retired.

I'd take Buoniconti off before Nelson, but I wouldn't take Nick off. He was a very important Patriot
