Just about an hour ago, CNN broke the news.
Still My Champ
It's hard to think of another head of state that has single handedly destroyed their country's progress the way Castro has destroyed Cuba. The entire country is still basically stuck in the early 1960's. Maybe with him dead they can now move forward and join the rest of civilization.
Unless you have a borderline-irrational hatred of any Western-flavored democracy, there's no love to be had for Castro.
He was a despot in every sense.
Twitter is literally a cesspool of "BUT WHAT ABOUT ALL THE GOOD THINGS HITLER CASTRO DID?" posts. I haven't touched my phone since the news broke this morning because I just can't take it.
And our insanely left Prime Minister releases a statement saying he's deeply saddened at the death of such a revolutionary, making sure to refer back to his father being friends with Castro (his father was a very controversial Prime Minister back in the 70's (although I like what he accomplished)).
I get that Canada and Cuba have good relations because of the work his dad did, but to completely gloss over the fact he was a ruthless dictator that illegally imprisoned, tortured and murdered people is really upsetting.
So yeah, it's been a fun day as someone that closely follows Canadian politics.
Trudeau is "insanely left"?
Anyway, you can say Castro was a brutal dictator and still have problems with western democracy and capitalism. It's not that difficult.
I know that's too much for twitter, though.
Glad to see the left on PW are still sane.
All the left wing media accounts I've seen on twitter are praising Fidel Castro, maybe he meant the left on PW are rational and sane unlike others on the left.
Pretty much what System said.
Appreciate the clarification.
So the worst group of all time, Black Lives Matter put out a big letter praising Fidel Castro. They continue to disgust me.
My father knows more about history then me and he said Fidel Castro was almost as awful, but still awful, as Enver Hoxha was in his day. But of course this racist group loves them a criminal.
I wonder how many of those outraged about positive opinions of Castro have issues with Che Guevara shirts.... Hypocrisy
