I knew the California road trip was going to be killer. Went into it on a losing streak and ended up losing 5 in a row. Totally shot to hell all those games in hand Toronto had.

So frustrating that they were in 3rd with 4 games on everyone but Ottawa and are now battling for the 2nd WC spot, but at the same time, their division and most of the East for that matter have never been safe. While the Leafs were sitting in 3rd they were only like 4 pts up on the second-last team.

Momentum is on their side and Freddy has been playing phenomenal. Marner is back and picking up where he left off, Matthews is continuing to be the amazing play-maker he is, our defense is finally figuring out...something..

Going to be a wild ride to finish out the season.

Big bounce back win for the Leafs. After being humiliated in Florida, they answered back with a big win in Tampa.

The Rangers sit comfortably in the 1st wildcard spot. All that matters now is getting Henrik Lundqvist back healthy.

The race for the number one seed in the East has been fun to watch. Washington and Columbus are tied for the number one seed while Pittsburgh is one point behind. Usually I am not one to care about about seed position. This year is for the Penguins to take the spot. The team has been pretty banged up for months now since having a short off season plus the World Cup. Having to face Columbus or Washington in the first round would be awful since it could be a Conference finals match up. The Caps have the hardest schedule remaining of the three, so let's see what happens.

I miss the old playoff format. The current format giving us the same match is tiresome and also feels non organic.

Big win for the Leafs over the Bruins tonight. It's gonna be a rough final stretch for them. Starting with Columbus on Wednesday.

I just found out that this was the first time Toronto has swept a season series over the Bruins, since 1925-26 (Boston's first season in the league). And the first time they beat Boston four times in a season since '66-67.

Crosby just scored one of the greatest goals of his career. No lie, I'll post a video as soon as one is up. He took a page from Malkin's page, and was like "No fucking way I'm giving it to Phil again. Watch this." A one handed backhand from up top. What a filthy goal.

So, so dirty. Good for Sid, especially with all the talk about him slowing down (prior to last year's Stanley Cup and World Cup). I think Connor McJesus lit a fire under his ass.

If Pens play the Bluejackets in the first round, they need to do exactly what the Leafs are doing tonight. Toronto is doing a great job of playing them hard, skating away from potential scrums, and making those plays. Their fourth line of Martin, Boyle, and Fehr has been key.

The wins just keep getting bigger and bigger for the Leafs. 14 of a possible 16 points in their last 8 games. And are about to leapfrog over Boston for 3rd in the Atlantic.

Killed a huge major 6+ minute penalty in the 3rd, which turned the game right in our favor.

Rookie coaching mistake by Babcock Forced the Leafs to kill off 6:57 straight. Didn't bother to hear an explanation, but regardless, that could've been a huge error.

Fucking golden boy. Do as much as blow in Crosby's face, and you get two games at least.

1990 was the last time the Detroit Red Wings failed to make the playoffs. And tonight, for the first time since, Detroit will find themselves looking from the outside of the postseason.

The Wings have a nice group of young players to build a team around, which is quite impressive for such a successful team. They gotta start their rebuild though. Depending on their returns in may not be your typical rebuild either.

Despite losing in overtime the Rangers clinched a playoff berth. I have not been impressed with Stepan lately. He is finally chipping in a little bit more and has proven that he can be a point per game guy, but his one on one battles are pathetic.

Leafs played a solid game for 58 minutes last night, never lost the lead, were up 3-1 late in the 3rd, then Gardiner took a terrible tripping penalty (totally deserved, idiotic play by him) and on the ensuing power play Florida made it 3-2 with 56 seconds left.

    My reaction:

Fortunately the Leafs held on. Auston Matthews is now the Leafs all-time rookie leader for scoring, passing Wendel Clark. They're still in 3rd with a game in hand on everyone nipping at their heels.

This final stretch into the playoffs is going to kill me. I really want them to make it, but the saving grace here is I expected nothing from them this season and look where they are. I'll be able to live with it if they fall out of a playoff spot, but it'll still sting a bit. Such a weird feeling as a Leafs fan after all these years of pure garbage.

Still just tied for 3rd all-time. The Bruins have the all-time number at 29 seasons and I think it's the Blackhawks, with 28 or 27 in second. I think it will be awhile before we see another streak like that happen again.

I purposely didn't watch the Leafs/Predators game last night because my last 48 hours have been stressful enough. Wednesday morning at 3:00AM our water heater ruptured and flooded part of our (finished) basement. Yesterday was spent working and dealing with insurance adjusters/contractors. I needed to relax and do nothing last night so I skipped the game, knowing I'd be a ball of stress if I tried to watch it.

Thankfully the Leafs won despite shitting the bed in the 3rd period and relying way too much on Freddy again. Marner set the all-time Leafs rookie assist record and they now sit 2 points behind 2nd place Ottawa. Sounds awesome, but this playoff race is going to the last game. The Leafs keep winning but can't pull away from the pack. Fucking Carolina is still in this somehow.

The next two games (Detroit/Buffalo) are key. These are games the Leafs need to win because their final four games are against Washington, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay and Columbus. They're all at home, but holy fuck what a horrible stretch to finish the season with.

Matthews sealed the Calder Trophy for himself. Lots of people here in Finland hate him, because Laine has made these people insane. Its funny.

UUGGHHHHH the stress is killing me. They can clinch tonight if they beat Washington and Tampa loses in regulation. It's a stretch but not impossible. Things still look good.
