I hope Osuna can play the next series, I don't remember if the commentators ever found out what happened to him.

They wouldn't have known that quick. We'll probably get a preliminary thought from Gibbons tonight, learn of the details tomorrow.

I mean, in his defense, hindsight is 20/20, and how many times have you seen closers struggle in non-closing situations? It looks bad not having the best pitcher available not in, but then what if they bring him in to save an inning and then get a run next inning and he's spent?

It's asking Showalter to know how future innings would play rather than having the best closer this year available to actually possibly close.

I'd rather pitch Ubaldo with a safety net of a one run lead myself.

Closing is not automatically the most stressful inning. Having your best pitchers in at the biggest moments is more important than saving them to be the last pitcher. Putting Britton in against the top of the lineup makes perfect sense.

And if he held the game to a tie and the rotation comes through again and he's gone and they lose then, he gets ripped for using him too soon.

    Just saying it's a no-win.

Ehh, I think you're always more likely to get criticized for leaving your best pitcher unused than you will for the alternative.

They might have lost even if they'd played Britton, but losing when you've played your best players is more defendable than losing with your best guy on the bench.

But that doesn't make any sense. It's a tie game on the road in extra innings, every pitcher you bring in is pitching in a save situation. You give yourself a better advantage statistically by using your best pitchers first in tied extra innings games. Your best pitchers keep the game alive so your offense can score runs, then your bad pitchers can pitch with a cushion instead of ending the game when a single run scores. No one rips managers for that because it's basic baseball strategy.

I'm playing devil's advocate (I see both sides of it) because I just find the media reaction hilarious when no matter what he would have been criticized.

Buck did himself no favors with seeming to be lost when asked about the reasoning though

I'm so pumped up for this Blue Jays and Rangers series. It was meant to be. I can't wait. Cleveland and Boston will also have David Ortiz and former Sox manager as that storyline. Awesome.

Now to see who walks out of the SF/NYM game the winner. I'm pulling for the Mets, but if I had to bet money, I would go San Francisco and MadBum. This is going to be a fun playoffs. I really hope we get Boston/Toronto in the ALCS. The Jays are fun to watch, because they got stars on that team. Plus I want Ortiz to walk out in one more World Series. He deserves it.

This is one of the best games of the year from the 5 innings I've been able to see. Fantastic stuff with great energy.

I'm still not sick of the Giants. They have such a cool team and I'm glad they're playing the Cubs next.

Pretty much. You know the Giants are gonna milk the hell out of Bum, especially against Chicago.

And so continues the even number year trend the Giants have had since 2010.

Well, the Cubs run was fun this year.

Well, someone finally told MadBum it was playoff time, he didn't pitch well in September, but that man is terrifying in the playoffs.

So letdown in Baltimore that they didn't end up smashing these unlikable punks 2 nights ago. I'd even root for Boston over them. Hope Texas wins the series. Hope Darvish pwns Happ.

Ernie Johnson whining about guys being called out for sliding off the bag was hilarious. I hate it when the rules of baseball are enforced.
