Recently picked up the NES game Digger T Rock. Never heard of it, but it was in CEX for 5 and it's quite rare to see NES games around here... so I picked it up.

Also bought a PS2 network adapter so that I can play games off hard drive as opposed to disc. Unfortunately I've now also had to order an IDE Hard Drive and an IDE to USB adapter. Possibly not worth the hassle.

Before the start of the year, I had these two games earmarked as games I'd purchase. However then finances got tight and the lukewarm reception turned me off both titles. Fortunately, EB Games recently held their own Cyber Monday deal and had Star Fox for $23 (with shipping) and Zelda for $42 (with shipping). At that price, they're both worth it, particularly Zelda which never loses it's value and is often one of the more expensive games to collect when buying for older systems.

Those recent purchases have inspired me to collect all the Nintendo Wii U exclusives. Well, at least the good games, so these are all on my hit-list...

    Captain Toad Treasure Tracker
    Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze
    Hyrule Warriors
New Super Mario Bros Wii U
    Paper Mario Colour Splash
    Pokken Tournament
    Super Mario Maker
    Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE
    Yoshi's Woolly World

Not a bad idea from a practical perspective. Generally the weaker selling consoles/games tend to increase in price as time goes on due to limited availability. The Saturn and its games, for example, tend to go for much more than the original Playstation and most of its games. It's the same for the GameCube to a lesser degree compared to the PS2/XBOX.

I figure it's better than the alternative which is collecting for older systems.

I've always had this desire to own every single Nintendo 64 game. It's the console I grew up with and there's still a ton of games on that system I've yet to play through. The problem is, the N64 is one of the most in-demand platforms on the market and common games like Mario Kart 64 can fetch prices up to $100 for a loose cart. If I was going to collect for the system, I couldn't accept half measures. I'd have to own pristine boxes with all the inserts, the carts, all the accessories and controllers. At 8-12 years old, it would be my dream. However, if I knew somebody who devoted all their time and money to the system and didn't have an amazing job and personal life I'd question their sanity.

So I may as well make do with what's available. A lot of the first party titles are still available and with the Switch imminent it wouldn't surprise me to see major retailers reduce their prices in order to clear room. If I can get the rest of those games in the vicinity of $400 over the next twelve months, I'd be absolutely cool with that.

The only issue then is ensuring I get everything I want for the 3DS and pick up any 360/PS3 gems before they become collector's items.

Another trip to the retro gaming shop means another Playstation haul.

Most were under 5 except for Resident Evil 3 (15) and Star Ocean (22). Not actually sure if Code Veronica X is a good game but it looked intriguing. They also had Valkyrie Profile 2 in stock, but unfortunately it wasn't a PAL version. The game I wanted most was Symphony of the Night which wasn't in stock. Probably too good a game for people to bring in.

In addition to that I bought three games I had previously but got lost over the years: Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition (I didn't actually own the Special Edition but close enough), God of War 2 and Onimusha: Warlords. Now that I'm not just buying new games, I'm officially a collector of Playstation games. Which I'm fine with. My collection is getting quite big now. My list of to-get games is still fairly large, and I'm also thinking about buying games I've previously emulated (Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider...)

As long as you're not trying to collect every single game that came out for the system, buying physical copies of PS2 games is still worthwhile, especially since Sony won't upload every single classic onto PSN.

Don't bother with Symphony of the Night. It's considered a collector's item and you'll be dropping at least a 100 quid on any copy you find. Unless you find it at a garage sale, thrift shop or a mate is looking to sell off his collection it isn't worth it.

Nah, I'm not interested in getting every single game, that's outrageous. Just the ones I want to play or have played and enjoyed.

It's those type of collectors that make me shake my head. Especially in PAL regions where games are more expensive and inferior to their NTSC counter-parts.

I recently wrote up a list of classic PS2 games that I had yet to play through and had to stop at the 200 mark.

    Top Games Included:
    Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence
    Final Fantasy XII International
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus
Ratchet & Clank Up Your Arsenal
Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition
    Gradius V
    We Love Katamari
    Ace Combat 5
Zone of the Enders: 2nd Run
    Suikoden V

Then there were a couple I already own, but you may not have...

    Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
    Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne
    Shadow Hearts Convenant
    Timesplitters: Future Perfect
    Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando

So I've got a hunch that my folks are getting me a PS4 Pro for Christmas. Originally the plan was to wait until the boxing day sales to see if a good deal comes up, or wait until Horizon Zero Dawn since they'll surely package the game with the Pro. However, I just got that vibe from them which would be utterly insane.

Before then, I was just planning on splurging on the PSN deals for PS3. Here's a few games on my wishlist...

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection - $13
    Journey - $11
    Demon Souls - $8
    Tekken Tag Tournament 2 - $6
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel - $18
    Yakuza 4 - $11
    Yakuza 5 - $21
    Catherine - $5
Zone of the Enders - $6

Now I'm not going to buy every single game (don't want to spend a $100) but I'm considering going Yakuza 5, Legend of Heroes and Catherine.

@Big Pete Yakuza 4 & 5 never got a PS Plus collection release in your region? I remember the US had these two up for grabs here.

@Blindy @Aaron better to join Team Dva. Or I'll disown him.

They did, but I'm not a PlayStation Plus member.

I still game on a PS3, so the benefits aren't as pronounced.

@Blindy @G/B I think I'm safe - I've been D.Va all the way so far. I haven't tried out most of the characters just yet, but she's been my favourite by miles up to now.

@Big Pete - Did you mention you think you may be getting a PS4 for Christmas? I'd recommend getting a PS+ profile ASAP. When I started on PS+, I only had a PS3 (the Vita and PS4 were available, I just didn't have them yet), but I still "bought" all the free PS4/Vita games. When I eventually got a PS4 (and before that, a Vita), I had a ready-made library of about a dozen free games sitting waiting for me.

Once you're a PS+ member, if you go via https://store.playstation.com you can add the month's free games to your library, meaning you can download them to your PS4 if/when you get it. I was resistant to the whole PS+ thing at first, but I honestly regret not getting it sooner.

Also, get Catherine. Don't think about it. Just do it. Don't let your dreams be dreams.

Yakuza 4 and 5 were PS Plus over 2015/2016. I agree with Aaron in just adding the games for future reference even if you don't have PS Plus. I missed out on InFamous: First Light when it was free here in US back in FEB of 2015 by not doing this but since then I have added just about every game even if I end up deleting it before playing just for the sake of having it.

    No Doom.

That's what I get for relying on Target and Boxing Day sales. Hit up two seperate stores and they didn't have the deal. I did find other copies at JB Hi Fi & EB Games but lines were out the door.

As a consolation prize I picked up...

Final Fantasy XV - 25% off RRP at $60
    Catherine & Yakuza 5 on PSN - $25
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past - $35

Unless I come across some Wii U deals, I'm good until January.

    My January pick ups...

    Lemmings for the Game Boy
Gex: Enter the Gecko for the Game Boy Color
Trivial Pursuit for the Master System
Pro Pinball for the Sega Saturn
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles & Legend of Zelda: Windwaker (with the OoT second disc) for the Gamecube

Trivial Pursuit says 5.99 on the box, but the store I bought it from (Cash Converters) actually accepted a 2.50 offer with free postage. Which was baffling as it cost them 2.85 to post it to me.

The PSN Sale just went live and they finally had all the Level 5 JRPGs on sale.

So I picked up Dark Cloud, Dark Cloud 2 (Chronicle) and Rogue Galaxy. I won't have the time to play through all of them, but considering one of the key reasons for buying a PS4 was to gain access to these PS2 Classics (and others) it was a no-brainer.

    Some other good deals...

    Gravity Rush 2 50% off
Last Guardian reduced by 60% Full RRP

I'm also waiting for Gundam Breaker 3 to arrive.
