Brazil vs Germany in the gold medal match... rematch 2 years in the making(to some extent)
Now you're on the field callin' me an asshole, 'Cause I roped up your body like a lasso

It would be so funny if it ended up being 7-1 Germany again.

If the final goes 7-1 for Germany, if I am a player or coach.. hell.. If I am in Brazil... I would be leaving as soon as I could

It gets US another gold as well, with Helen Maroulis winning gold in the 53 kg class.

That was one of the better matches and moments I've seen on this stage in the sport in quite some time. The emotions they both put in, the way they battled, it was fantastic.

A gold, a silver, and two bronze. I think this is Canada's best ever day at a non-boycotted games, when it comes to total medals.

I think they should have a decent shot if the team remains, maybe some minor changes and the players continue their growth. Even with the loss to Germany in the semi-finals, I thought they still played one hell of a game. They obviously have the talent. I do think Buchanan needs to settle some of her play down, because I believe she got a yellow in every single game she played outside of this game. But she's a very talented defender, just needs to clean it up a bit. Either way, if I am the team or a fan, I would be happy with these results, they played an excellent tournament.

And Germany takes the gold! I feel terrible for Sembrant on that own goal, but between this win and the Bayern Munich win today, I'm pretty happy. Hopefully the men can win the gold tomorrow.

I tip my cap to Sweden on a well played game.

I can't believe Canada lost to the Japanese in the relay.

Anyway, Bolt got the Triple-Triple. So I guess it's time to debate. Who's the greatest Olympian? Bolt or Phelps?

EDIT: Americans DQed, Canada moved up to the bronze. I'd like to know what the U.S. did?

I think the Americans had a lane violation.

Edit: Faulty baton pass, happened outside of designated area.

What a moment for Brazil. They win their first gold medal in football, at home, at the Maracană. Neymar's legend is now right up there with Pele's and Ronaldo's with that penalty winner.

It's fucking Olympic football, it's irrelevant. No doubt Brazil are delighted, due in part to the fact that they do not win many gold medals, and they love football. But to suggest this win somehow matches the achievements of Pele and Ronaldo is so fucking stupid it makes my head hurt. It's a youth competition.

You should've seen what happened in men's wrestling today. There was a bronze medal match between a Mongolian, and a Uzbekistani. The ending of this match looked like something you'd see in WWE.

I can't explain it in words. You'd have to see it to believe it.

It was a special moment for Brazil because its the one competition they haven't won in football and they were desperate for it (played 6 of the last 8, 3 silvers and 2 bronze from those 6). It was also a special moment because it was a home Olympic Games and they were still smarting from the embarrassment of that 7-1 loss to Germany in 2014. It was additionally special because the final was against Germany, who had inflicted the previously mentioned humiliating defeat and knocked their women's football team out in the SF of this Olympics as well.

It is a footnote to the rest of the world. It is an U23 tournament with only three players per squad allowed over that age. But I am sure this makes Neymar more of a hero in Brazil than he was, though clearly isn't putting him up with the likes of Didi, Garrincha, Pele and Ronaldo. Based on what I've read and heard about how much this means to Brazil and all the circumstances I mentioned above, CM Punk'd's claim is probably not as totally insane as it sounds. It does seem like it is a moment that will mean a lot, lot, lot more and resonate further than it would for any other country. You've got talk from Rai like this: "I think the first gold medal can mark the new era for Brazilian football."

As ludicrous as it is in many ways, this will enhance Neymar's standing in Brazil - by just about winning a kiddie competition as one of the world's top players with the best squad in the tournament. But, no, not to the level of guys that were the best players as Brazil won World Cups.

When the American woman helped the woman from New Zealand in the 5000 meter semifinals after they both fell. They both got into the final, but D'Agostino (American) completely tore her ACL, so she couldn't compete, but she cheered on Hamblin, the New Zealander...who was less than 100% after the fall. Of course, all the other stuff with Bolt, Phelps and the other stuff was cool, but I love that shit. The Americans win a shit ton of medals...again and it's great, but there's more than just that.

    No they won't....

When Neymar brings home the World Cup THEN they MIGHT start putting him in the same breath as Pele and Ronaldo.
