Watched Phelps and Simone Biles last night. Wanna talk about holy shit moments? Phelps swims the 200m at an incredible pace and less than 40 minutes later the Semifinals for the 100m butterfly. 31 years old and he swims those events back to back like that. So incredible of a night and he isn't finished at these Olympics yet.
Simone showed why she is the best female gymnast in the world. Her all around performance was incredible. Sly Raisman was impressive also, had some outstanding showings, but Simone Biles is truly just that good.
Another Simone made history last night. Simone Manuel became the first African-American female swimmer to win gold in an individual event for the US. And at only 16 years of age.
I always enjoy the swimming events and usually skip most gymnastics unless my wife forces me, but last night was amazing.

I love how Manuel has said multiple times she doesn't want to be seen as an "African-American swimmer" just as a swimmer....yet look at headlines today (Though I do respect the historical value of her accomplishment 100%)

Simone Biles may be the best of the generation. She pulls of everything so smooth and flawless. I don't follow it a ton, but from Olympics and the occasional world championship watch....I thought Shawn Johnson was perhaps the most impressive I've seen....not anymore. And big respect to Aly Raisman, she gets forgotten being the 2nd best on the team 2 cycles in a row, but she stepped up and delivered as well.

Michael Phelps has more gold medals in Olympic history than 90% of countries in the world.....and an NFL game (Ravens/Panthers) stopped last night so they could air his race for the hometown crowd in Baltimore. Is there anybody else that can make an NFL game actually stop? That is a SHORT list that may only have President Obama joining him

How awful of Sweden to play with smart strategy. Though I do love the comedy that Solo even says they used the same strategy with Pia at manager....so was it cowardly then?

So over Hope's act. She mouthed off about being benched in favor of Scurry a long time back, and if she wasn't right, I would have been annoyed with her then. But how many headache inducing moments can one player have? This is as hilariously bad as CR7's Iceland comments.

I'm just watching some track and field and I have to wonder. Is there a worse feeling for an olympian then falling off the back of the pack with 500 m or so to go, knowing you have to finish but that you'll be last and it's all over.

A ton and a half of credit to Rad for this superb artwork

Team USA men basketball dodge the bullet and won. They left Sebria best shooter open but luckily he missed which he could tie the game to send to OT.

Despite the win, and a good start in the first quarter terrible overall game for team USA. Too much isolation and not enough running the offense there is no team ball on offense. Defense was terrible coach K did a terrible job coaching too leaving his starters on the floor too long in the third quarter instead of bringing his defensive guys in when they need stops and when the defensive guys play they get stops. Only thing I like what coach k did is start PG13(he was ok today though.) and reduce Klay minutes when he didn't bring nothing.

And don't get me started with Cousins.

I am so sick of there being nothing but swimming on every night. Not everyone loves Michael Phelps, NBC. Would have loved to see the gymnastic events this week, but they ended up not being on until midnight here on the east coast and I have a job. So completely disappointed with the coverage NBC has provided.

This is pretty much why I've lost interest in the Olympics over the years. None of the sports I'm interested in are covered, if they are it's on at 2 in the morning or something. Hell, did they even bring wrestling back for this one?

The best part of all this is that Sweden's coach was the coach of Team USA when they won gold medals in 2008 and 2012. If Hope Solo wasn't such a fucking moron she would have known that this is exactly how Sweden was expected to play. I even read somewhere that Sundhage said in an interview that you have to beat the Americans defensively, which is precisely what Sweden did.

Stayed up until 4 am my time to finish that nailbiting tennis match and I am crying with happiness for del Potro. I will be rooting so hard for him tomorrow. And at 27/28, he still has time to accomplish more if he continues to be healthy.

^ Yeap. Monica Puig sorta came out of nowhere with this win. But good for her snatching Puerto Rico's first ever gold medal.

Similarly, so happy for Joseph Schooling from neighboring Singapore getting SG's first ever gold medal. The way the airport advertised his win was pretty cool. He got a million dollars along with that gold medal of his. His teen pic with Phelps in 2008 circulating around is so cute, too. I mean, he's still pretty cute now, though. Hahaha.

Michael Phelps walks away from Olympic competition with yet another gold. That's 23 of them in his career, and 28 medals overall.

Nobody's ever getting close to that tally. It wouldn't be human if that was ever eclipsed.

Not quite another Super Saturday but still a fantastic night for GB, after a great Friday. Pity about Ennis-Hill, the Belgian was simply outstanding - 5 PBs in one single Heptathlon is incredible. Also a tragically close finish for Fran Halsall in the 50m freestyle. Still, 3 Golds, 4 Silvers and 1 Bronze in a day. Wonderful effort.

Big day tomorrow, a few potential winners there.
