    RIP to The Greatest.

There will never be another man who inspires and transcends sports like Ali.

The world has lost an icon.

He was the greatest inside, but especially outside of the ring. He challenged structural racism, confronted anti-blackness, and embraced a faith and name long vilified in America. At an impasse when confronting any of the three, as a sportsmen no less, was unheard of.

He defeated the most imposing of opponents, George Foreman and Joe Frazier, fervent war-mongering in Vietnam and racial segregation, without fear or pause. He lifted the heads of black people everywhere, Muslims everywhere, and marginalized people the word over with his unrivaled charisma, courage, and God-given ability to transcend the bounds of boxing and boundaries.

We can't forget that he had a great connection to the wrestling world as well. He was at the first WrestleMania, he had a match with Antonio Inoki, and there is footage of Gorilla Monsoon giving him an airplane spin. He was an icon to everyone.

“You got your good looks, a great body, and a lot of people will pay to see somebody shut your big mouth. So keep on bragging, keep on sassing, and always be outrageous.”

    - Gorgeous George to Muhammad Ali in 1961.

My dad told me everything there was to know about Ali. I'm glad he got to experience The Greatest so that I could live it through him.

He lived a full life. Sad day still. RIP.

As I grow older I often lament the passage of time and my youth. However, there are times when I realize that my age has a blessing, in that I was fortunate enough to have witnessed extraordinary events and people.

Remembering Ali takes me back to the tender age of 6 and The Fight of the Century vs Frazier, at 9 I watched The Rumble in the Jungle as Ali beat the unbeatable George Foreman, then at 10 I got The Thrilla in Manila.

I'm an old man now, but I'll always have those memories of a man who made an often brutal sport look so beautiful.

    RIP, Champ.

Rip to a legend and I say that as someone who thinks the word has grown to mean nothing, but this is a man who was a true great as a sportsman and as a human. May he inspire many young sportsmen not to be cocky, but to be great in every sense of the word.

He was the most important figure in sports of the last 100 years...maybe even ever. I met him in Fort Bragg when I was 11 years old when he was visiting there promoting the Islamic faith. Even well into Parkinson's he was still an absolutely awe inspiring presence, for my father as well for me.

The complete antithesis of everything “Republicans buy sneakers too” was about.

And the world was better for it.

    And watch this.

There will never be another figure like Muhammad Ali in the world of sports again. Biggest star ever in all of sport and one of the most recognizable people to ever have walked this earth.

    RIP, 'The Greatest' Muhammad Ali!

I've actually come to think that Ali could have had a really good rap career if he was actually interested in doing it.
