    Default 2016 Hip-Hop Thread

It's been a few years since PW has one, but let's kick off the year right with this thread. 2015 was a great year for hip hop, but I'm expecting even bigger things this year. Queen Miss Elliot returned last year with her Super Bowl surprise and dropping WTF so maybe an album is in the horizon for 2016. Drake is going to capitalize on his big 2015 for the much anticipated Views from the 6. Pusha T gave us a taste last month, King Push will be out this year. Future is going have another legendary year.

Yeezy season is officially a go. Earlier today Mrs. Kim Kardashian West tweeted about GOOD Fridays returning with the first song being "Real Friends" and a preview of a track with Kendrick Lamar. Just a few minutes ago, Kanye officially said SWISH will be out February 11th!

Last night Kendrick did another Untitled song like he did on the Colbert Report.

What are you looking forward to this year?

Love that Real Friends has marked the return on emotional, insecure Kanye. I think that's when he's at his best (see Blame Game). Ty Dolla $ign fits in perfectly too, he was almost made to do a feature on a Kanye track. Can't wait to hear the full version of the song with Kendrick.

Kanye West ft Kendrick Lamar - No More Parties in L.A.

The new song was a few days late because it wasn't completely finished, but it was definitively worth the waste. Hearing Kanye and Kendrick go back and forth is what dreams are made of. Kim wasn't lying about it being 90 bars. I really hope this ends up being on SWISH. This sounds like something between Late Registration and Graduation.

Future dropped a new mixtape too called Purple Reign. His streak of great tapes and albums continues.

Swish of course. Also the full version of King Push, saw Pusha live at Metro Theatre a few weeks ago, he was great live.

So Help Me God to SWISH to Waves. It's been an intersting album roll out for Kanye. Here's another tracklist too.

Drake just announced Views from the 6 coming out in April on OVO radio. He dropped a new song called Summer Sixteen in which he disses Meek Mill, Tory Lanez, the Weekend (Possibly), and like half of the OVO roster?

So Kanye's album comes out next week, but he's now unsure of a album name now. Kim put a poll on twitter asking what of the three (So Help Me God, SWISH, and Waves) should be used. This album rollout has been a blast so far.

New Future album called EVOL and new Young Thug tomorrow. What a time to be alive.

Just listened to EVOL, never been a great Future fan and this didn't do anything to change my mind. I put him in my Lil Wayne & Rick Ross category where I don't mind them showing up with a guest verse but listening to them for a whole album gets a bit tiresome. A lot of the songs just start to blend together and my ears pricked up the most when The Weeknd showed up because at least it was something a bit different.

Different strokes I guess but just not for me. Cool cover art though.

First listen through Pablo and my initial reactions are that there's a lot of filler content, particularly in the first half. I can't help but feel like it would have been a better album with one of the earlier, more concise tracklists. With that said, there's a lot of great stuff too. I think the three track stretch of FML, Real Friends and Wolves is fantastic. Apparently the latter is going to change again on the physical release, but I vastly prefer this to the previous Sia/Vic Mensa edition, and Frank's short feature has only increased my thirst for his album. The even more anonymous Andre 3000 feature on the otherwise pleasant 30 Hours is frustrating and feels like wasted potential.

I don't think I considered Dark Fantasy a classic the first time I heard it, but at this stage I think this is in the Yeezus league - moments of excellence mixed with moments of madness.

Take out I love Kanye and Freestyle #4, and I pretty much love Pablo. Everything after Wolves is just bonus tracks which I made into SWISH. FML to Wolves is great along with Ultra Light Beams being one of my favorite openers ever. This feels like Ye's weakest album lyrically to me. The production on this album is fantastic, and Kanye has brought some of the best features on the album. Cudi's recent music creation is questionable at best, but Yeezy is able to bring out his best. Agreed on the Andre feature, it was a waste of his talent.

I recently started listening to an new rapper from Toronto, Jazz Cartier. Like Chance, his music is free and he recently dropped his debut album Hotel Paranoia.

If you've got a spare $400 you can buy a jacket printed with the TLOP tracklist notepad.

Views finally got put up on Spotify so I listened to it through. Whoever was responsible for the tracklist and the lack of editing should be shot. One hour twenty is too long for any album, particularly for someone as whiny as Drake! There are a few enjoyable tracks on there, and he does deserve some credit for his humour which offsets the bitching, but it's mainly 40's great production that makes the record redeeming and not a total chore to listen to.

Views is something I loved few weeks it came out. The contrasting beginning and back half of the album make it feel as it is almost a double album like it was rumored to be. As you said, the production is fantastic. 40 is easily still one of the best in the game. I love how self aware he is in the first half of the album. Now I only listen to a few of the songs when I'm in the mood.

I've been spending all my time with Chance. Coloring Books is in my top five albums of the year.

Summer is shaping up to be a lot of fun too. There's two Vic Mensa projects on the way with a mixtape dropping tomorrow. YG has Still Brazy dropping this month. Schoolboy Q has his album too, and it's already sounding better than Oxymoron. Rae Sremmurd have theirs as well. Plus, there's a rumor going around that Frank is going to drop his tonight. I'll believe it when I hear it.

There's Alot Going On starts quite positively with Dynasty, but goes downhill pretty rapidly with Vic aping almost everyone else in rap right now on various tracks (and then getting upstaged by Ty$ on the admittedly catchy Liquor Locker). I think the house/hip hop blend of Down On My Luck suited him a lot better than this aggro-rap/Future-knockoff style.

Revisited TLOP recently after largely disregarding it after release - and I enjoy it a lot more now. I think Kanye made quite a few changes over the past few months and it's better for it. Saint Pablo is a great track.
