Default Infolinks? Virus on my computer?

Hey, guys, not sure if this is you guys or not, or if it's something to do with my computer.

But I went to click on a forum or thread here ... and this pop up jumped up in front of me. It's a subtle little pop up that only takes up a small percentage of the bottom of the forum.

In the past, I always clicked the X on it so it disappeared. It's called info links ....

However, this time ... I clicked on it by accident on account of it popped up right infront of the thread or forum I was clicking on.

Anyhoozle, this screen popped up at me saying, "Call this number to fix the virus you have on your computer."

Couldn't close it at first, kept popping back up. I had to hit a box inside the popup that kept it closed. Didn't like doing that because I dont' trust those thigns. But didn't have a choice.

I'm doing a quick scan right now and I'll do a full scan later when I have more time. Not sure if I have a virus or not, or if it's just a scam. Or both.

But I wanted to make you guys aware of this and let you know what's going on on your site, in case you have a relationship with info links and this isn't something I did on my computer.

No worries, I'm on a shitty lap top I use for recreational activities.

Have you tried using an ad-blocker? It typically removes them. If you're on Firefox or Chrome, look on their extensions website for Ad-Block Plus.

I've been getting the odd redirectory link when surfing on my iPhone. Maybe it's something to do with Safari?

The ads on this site have been borderline malware for a while now. The main site is so corrupted that for the last decade we advised no one to go there.

Sounds like you got scareware. It is genius really. It makes you think you have a virus, then when you allow it to interact with your computer it actually downloads malware.

Infolinks is legit though. It is popups and advertising and shit, but not a virus itself. Some of the ads however may redirect to scary places.

On PC, malwarebytes, spybot and hitmanpro are great ways to clean a PC. The windows protection suite is actually fairly effective as well.

No clue what to do with macs.

Alright, thanks guys. My computer says I'm fine.

I didn't know ad block was a safety thing. I thought it was for people who didn't wanna watch ads on youtube.

Being a capitalist, I'm against that kind of thing.

But if it's something to do with safety I'll have to bone up on it.

    Thanksagain, all.

AdBlock doesn't block youtube ads. It blocks ads like the ones here, and the targeted ads like on facebook, google, etc. I use it on my own computer and on my work computer.

I've been getting infolinks for what seems like a year or more. I just live with it. It's not a hassle for me. Microsoft Edge however is useless when going to PW. I get fucking videos popping out at me and then my screen starts freezing and shit. It only happens on PW though. Other than that Edge works fine. So I use firefox for PW.

Use adblockplus for youtube ads and the stuff adblock does not get.

Does anyone use any Adblock apps for iPhone?

I'm now getting even more ads (pop ups at the bottom, pop up videos which start playing automatically and massive photos of some kind of firefighting bear with a shovel that take up my entire screen) every time I go to a new page and it's absolutely unbearable (especially the actual bear). It's only happening on PW, so yeah.

There seem to be over 9000 iPhone apps...has anyone used any?

Yeah I noticed the past few days when I browse at work about the one that creeps on the bottom. No issue at home since I have adblock though.

Sometimes it shrinks the entire forum page I'm on, really tiny. I have to reload the page when it does that

I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing these problems, over the past couple of days ads appear every time the page is refreshed, I have the same problem as Mistress where the page shrinks, at first I thought it was just my computer, but on my phone, tablet and other computers I've been on I have the same problems...

Look into uBlock Origin. Adblock allows ads now, so even with it, you will get them.

I use adblock but I used to still get the Infolinks crap, I would have to click on one of the links and hit "Opt Out" and it would go away for a while, but it would always pop back up. Here for the past few weeks I have not been getting any ads or infolinks whatsoever. Not sure what happened. Everything is working good for me though.
