Very interesting interview @William C. Great to get some inside info from one of the pioneers of the mid-south MMA scene, dude fought a murders row of old school MMA greats and was super active in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma back when the sport was in it's infancy. That's a shitty situation he was in with the worked Oleg fight, kind of screwed himself by doing the job but he would have been blackballed if he didn't. Didn't know that he took the Sakuraba fight on 2 weeks notice, that's wild. Bunch of good info here about some of the fringe characters from the wild wild west days(Andy Anderson! Totally nude steakhouse that he owned was about an hour away from where I live now, too bad it's not open anymore). I love this era of MMA history so much. Looking forward to your Bart Vale interview man.

Ever been to Andy Anderson's steakhouse? Sounds like that would have been fun.

I think Anthony got a raw deal with Buddy. Back then there were so few shows, the future was uncertain, and Albin was a big player. Plus that was his manager for years. Anthony had every reason to feel like he was trapped.

I sure didn't, when that thing was open I was probably too young to get in and we were probably living in Houston at the time. Not sure I would want to eat a meal with naked strippers walking around anyways, food and ass just two things that don't work well together for me.

They could have at least put some effort into it and made him look decent, instead he just ran in there and got squashed. It was such an obvious work, they were practically winking at each other before the fight. I always found it interesting that the commentators for the show never really tried to skirt around it or hide it, Jim Brown in particular was pretty suspicious about it. It was a fucked up deal, Tank Abbott in all actuality should be a 2 time UFC tournament champ. He was the real winner in both of those tournaments, even though he lost clean in the finals of both of them.

Tank most definitely got a raw deal both times.

Now you got me googling this nude steakhouse, I found a pretty interesting news story from 1995, this is wild and interesting to me because this is my backyard(I work mostly in this town, lost track of how many houses I've built there):

    AP , Associated Press
    May. 14, 1995 1:26 PM ET

LONGVIEW, TEXAS LONGVIEW, Texas (AP) _ The sky could be falling on the East Texas Chicken Ranch.

Gregg County's first ``totally nude steakhouse'' has caused quite a flutter since it first opened its doors a year ago, becoming a target for both protesters and legal action.

Now it appears the doors will be closing permanently on Monday as a result of a settlement reached between Gregg County and owners of the Longview establishment.

Robert S. Davis, who has represented Gregg County in legal action against club, said the owners of the East Texas Chicken Ranch have agreed to shut down Monday and not open another sexually oriented business in the county.

In return, he said, the county has agreed it won't seek attorney's fees and court costs from majority owner Herbert P. ``Andy'' Anderson or his partners.

"I talked to (Chicken Ranch attorney) John Gamboa and have sent them documents, which reflect our agreement,'' Davis said. "I think from talking to them they are in the process of getting them signed and the Chicken Ranch will close its doors (Monday).''

If the restaurant's owners fail to sign the agreement, Gregg County will reinforce legal action against the East Texas Chicken Ranch, Davis said.

Gamboa could not be reached at his Fort Worth office on Sunday.

David Kitchens, manager of the East Texas Chicken Ranch, declined to comment, saying his employers ``aren't interested in doing any publicity right now.''

Almost immediately after the club opened last May, citizens and parents have waged a ``war against indecency,'' picketing the establishment and videotaping customers entering and leaving.

Bruce Edge, one of the founders of Longview's Citizens Against Pornography in Texas and the Pine Tree school district vice president, said if the club indeed shuts down, it's none too soon.

"It's long overdue. ... These businesses prey on our youth and our economic development. That hurts the community,'' Edge said.

Besides complaints from irate neighbors, the East Texas Chicken Ranch has been in other hot water.

Gregg County commissioners passed an ordinance in July regulating sexually oriented businesses and requiring licensing fees. The nude establishment and others sued.

Later, the Texas Department of Transportation forced the business to move its sign _ a portrait of a nude woman lying on her stomach, beckoning potential customers to come inside _ claiming it was too close to the Texas Highway 31 right of way.

Earlier this year, one of the owners was jailed for contempt of court after Justice of the Peace Virginia Barlow determined the restaurant wasn't complying with an order from the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission to fix a septic system problem.

Mrs. Barlow said the TNRCC filed nearly 200 complaints against the East Texas Chicken Ranch with her office.
    Wow man, just fucking wow.

Edit: found a pic of that sign somebody took in 1994:
