I've spent a little more time thinking about that half wit exec's "disappointment" with the numbers. And from a business standpoint what else is he gonna say? He could have said the other stuff (we plan to keep using these characters) in hopes of driving up their bargaining position with Disney... if they plan on selling. Or he by proxy Fox, might be holding on for spite, not to mention good business. I mean Disney/Marvel would probably do gazillions of dollars with characters like Doom, Galactus, and Surfer. Why let them? Anything to keep people from noticing how Superiorly executed the MCU has been against the X-men franchise. As a whole.

I can't help but think FF is toxic at this point. It'll be a good 15 years before I'd want to make another movie if I were Marvel and got back the rights.

I agree mostly. But seeding the characters in other movies... Might be worth it. Geting characters like Doom and Galactus too... Like Voxtz said imagine a post credit scene at the end of infinity with the surfer showing up? Setting off phase FOUR!!!

Like I said: Thing and Friends.

That said, they should totally cut their losses and let Marvel have the characters. As much as I dislike the majority of them, Fantastic 4 could add a lot to Infinity War. Plus going into Galactus for phase 4 could truly be something special.

Hell, quite a few things are controlled with the FF deal. All the heralds, Skrulls, The Watcher, etc. To get them back would help immensely for the future.

Yeah the Fantastic Four probably has the best rogues' gallery of any Marvel Franchise, hell maybe all of comics. The main reason Marvel should get the rights back is for the villains. Never cared too much for the Fantastic Four themselves.....well except for Human Torch. Loved him when I was a kid.

Spider-Man easily has the best Marvel Rogues Gallery.

Dr. Doom alone wipes out about 2/3 of Spiderman's. Throw in Galactus and Super Skrull and it's not even close IMO.

Spiderman has some great villains(Goblin, Doc Ock,Eddie Brock's Venom) but quite a few lame ones (Rhino, Beetle, every Venom except Eddie Brock)

Spidey has maybe the best individual rogues gallery at Marvel, but FF has among the best for any team. It's full of heavyweights like you need in team movies. Any future Avengers, or Guardians movie would greatly benefit by being able to use some of those villains.

I liked the 2005 FF movie for the most part. Didn't care much for the changes to Doom but I thought it was a decent flick that got a lot right. I didn't like the sequel nearly as much. I wasn't a big fan of the FF comics but the team is very important to the Marvel Universe. And, as others have mentioned, the team's villains are some of the biggest hitters in the universe.

I would love to see a FF film done right but everything I saw about this just screamed terrible. I was still willing to give it a chance until I saw the synopsis on opening weekend. I have zero interest in seeing the movie.

I hope it tanks bad enough that Fox gives the rights back to Marvel.

Except for Black Cat and Mysterio, all those fall squarely on the side of mediocre for me. Carnage is just Venom with the volume turned up to eleven, Kraven always came off as a little goofy to me, and The Lizard is kind of generic

Kraven did hand Spidey a pretty big defeat to include burying him alive while he went out as Spidey and defeated an enemy Pete couldn't on his own.

Not saying Kraven isn't a badass he most certainly is. I just never really cared much for the character.

Worth the read, lays out a lot of what went wrong with FF. A lot of it of course can't be confirmed. But the idea that Trank is blameless, or that the studio is blameless should be put to rest. Plenty enough here that shows this film would have likely sucked no mater how it was cut.

Is it possible that The 4 themselves just aren't cut out for the big screen? Would they be better suited to a live action TV Series where they can actually get proper character development and make full use of their rogues gallery?

Yeah, CapAm3 sounds fantastic. Paul Rudd making such a positive impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe is something very few could have predicted. I mean, I thought he was pretty perfect for an Ant Man movie; at the very least his comedic talents would carry things for 90 minutes, but he now feels like a vital piece of the puzzle moving forward... At least that's what it felt like reading that anyway.

    *

Seeing as I had zero intentions of going to the flicks to watch it, but was still beyond curious over just how bad it is, I looked online for an early pirate copy of F4. I actually found an amazing copy considering it's only really just been released.

Johnny Storm is the best thing about it, but it's far from a good movie. As a Fantastic Four movie it's an abomination. To sum it up, I'd say it's the absolute best example of how bad things can get when studios try to make super heroes as realistic and human as possible. There's, like, no fun to be found in this movie; think MoS but even more gloomy.

Thing looks really fucking awful as well. I know we all saw the pics, but seeing him lumber around on the screen was sad times, man.

ONE thing happened that made me smile: When Johnny met Reed for the first time. They caught the whole "instant bond" thing quite well.

I am extremely interested to see what happens next with the franchise; the last thing I want is for Fox to pretend that the movie at least have them an established team that they can work with for a sequel. Given with how hard they apparently scrambled to fast track this movie because their agreed time in between movies was running out I can't see them wanting to give Marvel back the rights any time soon. Hey, maybe we'll get lucky and they'll decide to pull out all of the stops and try to make a decent Silver Surfer solo movie, much like they did with Deadpool.

If anyone was to locate some footage... that would be awesome. I mean I realize the likelihood of such is nigh impossible... Disney and stuff... but if it were to appear links would be cool...

I have to admit, I would love to see Kraven done right on the big screen. The ultimate big game hunter contracted by JJJ to catch or kill the "public menace" Spiderman could be awesome.
