    Default Del Rio Heel Turn

Was the Del Rio heel turn at Payback planned? Or was it a case of the fans turning on him mid-match, and the WWE just went with it? I am confused. It really did seem to come out of left field.

I would assume it had to be preplanned based on a couple things. Those being primarily Dolph Zigglers growing fanbase and secondly ADR's character becoming perhaps a little stale as a bland Mexican face. I really wish his previous title run would have been done a little better, he really comes across to me as having a world of potential. He has a good look, built in charisma, and a solid wrestling foundation. I was hoping for a Mexican Superman type gimmick with that face run. Maybe a little attitude issue. I just recall him having the WHT and Big Show coming out to mess with him and ADR said some like "Why don't you do something thing about it" with a little extra accent on it and I was like Yeah Try It Show! I think Tweener Del Rio could be massive. Especially if he is booked as an effective submission specialist.

I really wish Ziggler beat del rio. I desperately wanted him out of the world title picture. I just find the guy so boring. And the same goes with Ricardo.

He definitely needs to have some more swagger added to his personality. I'm glad his generic aristocrat nonsense is long gone but I think he could be put over as a solid wrestler who likes to talk shit after a win. Then get him a challenger and have him actually beat some people and piss some wrestlers off doing it. Pride and ego can go along way storyline wise.

I would have turned him heel by destroying Ricardo. However, he's best when a heel so hopefully we get a good feud with him and Ziggler.

I'd keep Ricardo with him forever. As a heel he's a golden sidekick and as a face he will have someone to protect and get revenge for.

He's a good wrestler that has never fully interested me otherwise.

It was obviously planned given the commentary and the way the match progressed. I'm just happy that we finally have Ziggler as a face.

    It was clearly planned.

What I dont get is how he has been given another World Title run, he failed as a heel first time around for being too bland, he then failed as a face for a lack of charisma and now hes turned back to do it all over again. Alberto Del Rio is a 3 time World Champion, that scares me, blame how thin the roster is, whatever there are much much much better options in WWE, a double turn with Orton who is in fucking Inception limbo right now would have been a much more solid option.

    4.

Roster isn't thin, it's just tired and stale.

Reason he failed the first time was because they decided to push him right at the same time Punk was getting popular naturally.

Earlier this year he failed because WWE decided to have him face Jack fucking Swagger, a jobber, at WrestleMania. It was just as stupid as when Triple H and Booker T wrestled at WM19 but at least Booker wasn't a full on jobber yet at the time.

I'm guessing this reign is transitional if anything.

I was into the good guy del rio for about a month when it first happened but he played out very quickly. I'm fine with the heel turn and fine with ADR beating Ziggler. I think in losing, ziggler probably gained more sympathy and a road back to the title will be more compelling. They already kind of seem to be moving AJ into her own individual path and Langston could be her heavy and ziggler just goes it alone and replaces the void that Edge left as the king of Smackdown.

Del Rio is never going to be the top good guy or bad guy. Something about him is just hard for the majority to connect with.

Who exactly is going to be their top Mexican face? I thought I read reports, at the time, that that's why they turned Del Rio face in the first place.

This is pretty much Orton vs. Christian, except they're getting the heel/face dynamic right this time.

I am not suprised Rey Mysterio is returning soon as I doubt this would have happened.

We all know that Rey Mysterio doesn't have much gas left in the tank. Sooner or later, they are going to need a new Mexican face, and I believe that they will have to turn Del Rio back to face again to fill this role.

I can dig all of this.

I'm curious what everyone thinks is missing about Del Rio to make you really love or hate him?

I still think he's just missing that attitude that could really push him to the top. He's supposed to be so great, why doesn't he act like it? I mean if he used to be a big deal before he came to the WWE, why doesn't he get some seriously dominant wins over some people and act like it's the great thing ever to break Heath Slater's arm or something? I mean if they push him as a real threat to anyone because of his clearly painful finisher, I think he could go places. You can hate a guy for having a finisher than nobody can get out of. Then, when someone does, it's a big deal and Del Rio helped somebody out. I like that a lot more.

I really don't know why I'm generally bored or indifferent to Del Rio. He just doesn't grab me and really never has. Basically I think he's a guy who is just average in every area.

He's basically the Mexican Jeff Jarrett. (Good in-ring worker who can't get over.)

Del rio being a 4 time world champion too me. Just shows that the roster is extremely poor. It's not as bad now but 2010 too 2012 it lacked a lot off star power. And del rio winning all those titles MITB,royal rumble, 4 world titles just summed up how bad it was.
And if del rio was in the attitude era. He wouldn't have even won a hardcore championship.

That's a very solid comparison, Del Rio is not excellent in the ring, 95% of 99% of his matches are working an arm especially as a heel but I can tolerate his matches, not as main events, he would make an excellent IC Champion I feel if he had an ounce of charisma, but unfortunately his heritage speaks louder than his ability.

I would rank him among the worst if not the worst multiple time World champion since I started watching in 99, about a level above the one time champions Khali & Swagger but below everyone else.

Anybody remember the sheamus del rio fued.
Damn that was one of the worst world title fueds ever. That fued prevented me from watching smackdown for months.

Better yet can anyone name a good Del Rio feud?

His two PPV matches with Big Show were decent, every other thing involving him I wouldn't wipe my ass with.

Yeah his feud with Big Show was the only del rio feud I have ever been interested in.
And that was only because big show was killing it.

I recall Del Rio having a great match with Sheamus, back when Sheamus was churning out nothing but great matches. Don't think their feud was great though.

I thought Del Rio/Mysterio, Del Rio/Edge, and Del Rio/Christian were good feuds.
