Default WrestleMania 29 Earnings and Buyrate

“WrestleMania 29” has entered the record books as the highest-grossing “WrestleMania” ever for WWE, the company is expected to announce today.

Event, which took place April 7, at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, earned $72 million. Figure includes ticket sales to the live event and pay-per-view buys. This year’s tally is up from the $67 million grossed by “WrestleMania 28,” hosted last year in Miami.

Event’s appeal was propped up by heavily hyped matches between John Cena and The Rock, CM Punk and The Undertaker, and Triple H and Brock Lesnar, among others, as well as a major promotional push by both New York City and New Jersey, and WWE through its various platforms for weeks leading up to the event.

The PPV, always WWE’s biggest each year, again generated more than 1 million buys for the company worldwide. While total purchases of “WrestleMania 29” are still being tabulated by cable companies and other platforms that offered show, preliminary numbers estimate that it will reach around 1.2 million, less than the record 1.3 million sold for the Miami event, but those figures could still increase.

“WrestleMania 29” sold out MetLife Stadium, setting an attendance record there of 80,676 fans from 50 states and 34 countries, WWE said. Miami had a capacity crowd of 78,363 fans.

“WrestleMania 30” is scheduled to be held in New Orleans’ Mercedes-Benz Superdome on April 6, 2014.

So much for the buyrate being a record low.

It was never going to top last year's, but even getting close to it has to be considered an enormous success.

Well, you can't exactly fault them for it, given these numbers.

It did $67m last year so I expect it do be around the 1.1m mark. WWE have released an official corporate statement saying it's definitely over the 1m mark.

Considering the fact that they hiked the price up, if they get 1.2m that has to be considered a massive success.

I works quite well actually. The majority of fans are happy, and WWE continues to be successfull and make gobs of money.

And then one day these part timers will be gone, and then no new stars. Then Vince will wonder what happened, too dumb to figure it out.

Hopefully that won't be as much of a problem if they're gradually phased out, rather than all disappearing at once.

After another year of wrestlers and wrestling fans bitching and moaning about The Rock main eventing Mania, another record is broken proving the WWE right for doing it.

Question is, what happens if he really is done...they better pray Austin can go next year, because its a fact that nobody can draw like the Attitude guys to this day.

I'm confident that Undertaker vs. John Cena could draw another mil, especially with the number 30 to go along with it.

Maybe, but doesn't Taker count as an Attitude guy?

Even still, I think they'd get close but would still need a Rock or Austin match to reach or break that mark especially at these new astronomicallly high ppv prices.

They've drawn a mil without those guys before, and there's no evidence that these prices are turning a huge number of people away.

I dunno I consider this new buyrate to be a little evidence of that.

The fact that it came close meant that the same level of interest was there but the biggest difference was the price change.

And wich one reached a mil without Rock or Austin on the show?

    WM21 and WM24 I believe.

Edit: Actually, Austin had a segment in 21, so just 24 I think.

Or maybe the difference was the fact that Rock vs Cena had already happened once?

And it's not as though the price hadn't increased substantially between the last time they drew a mil (24) and 28.

    Wrestlemania Buyrate History

While I shouldn't be surprised, X-Seven getting 1.04 million buys 12 years ago, even before the tremendous globalization of the company, is astounding.

    21 (Austin in Piper's Pit hardly counts), 23, 24.

This news is disappointing. And here's hoping Rock really doesn't wrestle again, because we're sure to get Rock/Cena III if he does.

Austin was at 23 as well.

I believe the last price hike was WrestleMania 26 and they definitely felt the brunt of that, struggling to 885k. Remember that had Shawn Michaels retirement and Cena/Batista, so a price hike definitely has an impact.

This is a huge success tbh.
