Default Should WWE have pay per view events outside of North America?

This is something I've seen discussed by the IWC in past years, but not as much recently. I really think that B-level PPV events could benefit from being held in international markets. PPVs like "Over the Limit" being held in cities like Pittsburgh or Buffalo is fine, but if they were to be held somewhere new it create a cool buzz around the events.

I think Brazil would be a great place to have a PPV. It's home to a large WWE fanbase, is very tourist-friendly and is experienced in hosting big events. One of those events is the 2014 FIFA World Cup, which is being held throughout the country during June and July of next year. For that event, several new stadiums are being erected that would be perfect for professional wrestling events. One such arena is Arena de São Paulo, which is intended to look like this:

With a capacity of nearly 50,000 you couldn't go wrong holding an event there. So here's my idea: hold Night Of Champions in this venue and make a huge deal over it. Promote the fact that the very first WWWF Champion (Buddy Rogers) was crowned in Brazil in 1963. Have a big time main event for the WWE title, and maybe even consider unifying the WWE and World Heavyweight titles here. I honestly think this would be a great idea from both a programming and business perspective. Also, they wouldn't have to worry about time zone differences as much as they would if they were to hold a PPV in Europe.

Yes. Summerslam 1992 is the case in point. The only issue is the time difference and potential spoilers but I don't see why this should be an issue if the US PPV offers a choice of live or delayed PPV coverage.

They definitely should. Obviously they should stick with the majority in North America but if they want to be a truly international phenomenon then they should try to expand and have some PPVs in other countries. Providing of course that they can still have good crowds and buyrates (with timezone differences it could be difficult).

New Wembley has to be considered, as for time difference the UK audience would be staying up until 4am for Mania anyway so why not just hold Mania in its usual slot and have it start at Midnight in the UK, I know I'd have no issue with it and Im 100% confident if they polled the UK no other wrestling fan would go nah fuck Mania, Ill watch it in my Pjs instead of getting my lazy ass out the house in the evening.

You can't just put on a show from midnight til 4am on a Sunday, when 80 thousand people need to get there and back. It's not feasible and it would never happen.

Buddy Rogers didn't actually win the title in Brazil. They just handed him the title really. I'd love a PPV in this country, but as Todd said it's not really feasible, unless America watched it after the event actually finished.

Why not start the PPV at 9pm UK time and have it run in the afternoon in the USA. People watch football during the day, maybe it'll work with wrasslin.

I like when they go elsewhere. Bulldog over Bret to this day is one of the best crowd reactions ever. I love seeing hometown guys getting pops they normally do get in the states.

Yeah I don't get why they can't just air it live. Sunday afternoon sounds like a great time to watch wrestling.

Well if they did do Sunday afternoon in the UK, the Australian market would get to find out what it's like to watch a ppv starting at midnight. I'd honestly prefer that to the early starts.

A ton and a half of credit to Rad for this superb artwork

No I mean have it at evening time in UK which would be afternoon for Americans. Would probably make it middle of the night for Australia.

Pro wrestling use to have events on Sunday afternoons at house shows in the 80's. People also forget that WrestleMania use to start at 4pm back in the day.
Who is the boss? Who made wrestling? Who is sports entertainment?

during the NFL season here in the uk we get a game at 6pm which is 1pm Eastern in america. Is that too early to show a ppv? could even start at 8pm in the UK so it's past noon on the west coast

Why not? I can guarantee I can find 80,000 worldwide that would do that event. If you cant drive ect, tough shit really, why should the UK be denied a live WrestleMania because it might frustrate a few people who can just watch it at home anyway.

Actually I'd argue its easier, doing that during regular hours in London is a nightmare in the making, doing it at that time means Ill be home in an hour and a half.

I think they worry about peak audience, people during the day might be at work ect

    Agreed. Early starts are awful.
