If this for an angle or on-screen role or something? Hopefully it won't end up disappointing him like the Protege angle he was brought back for several years ago.

I'm guessing it's probably a legends deal or something.

Might as well challenge Wade Barrett, not like the IC title is worth much these days anyway....

I hope its a Legends deal or in a backstage role. I was never a fan of the HTM character. I don't mind seeing him every now and again but I don't want to see him on a regular basis.

I actually liked the HTM character. I have always been a 'heel' fan and rarely cheered for the face, and to me, HTM is a very, overlooked heel from wrestling lore.

Not saying he was the best, but by gawd he was good. Just look at him go..

For the most part, I've usually been more of a heel fan as well. I wasn't trying to knock on HTM. Longest reigning IC champion ever so clearly he was good at what he did and he deserves credit for his career. I just meant he wasn't my particular cup of tea. Then again, I don't like Elvis.

One thing though. I never quite understood how an Elvis impersonator was called the Honky Tonk Man? I mean Elvis was "The King of Rock" and I always associated the term "Honky Tonk" with country music. Even as a kid I was confused by that.

Its a long story, but one thing that needs mentioning is what is funny about Farris is that he started off in a Tag Team called Blonde Bombers in Memphis and Florida, with the obvious being he was blonde headed. He and his partner, Larry Latham, had a very successful run and actually put out some solid matches against combinations of Bill Dundee, Jerry Lawler, Ricky Morton, Koko B Ware, and a few others. Exceptional heel team from that era. (Google 'Tupelo Concession Stand Brawl' and see if there is anything on it...you will NOT be disappointed).

After the team broke up, Farris went his own way, and eventually ended up in Stampede. He got over here and began a feud with Austin Idol and lost in a 'hair dye' match to Idol (the two actually had several of these matches. Farris already had a punk-rock gimmick, but these matches was where Farris hair was everything from pink/blue to purple/orange.) During their last match, which HTM lost, he died his hair jet black except for a blonde streak in it. (Which cause Stu Hart to nickname him 'Skunk Rock').

He actually got the name 'Honky Tonk Wayne' from Bruce Hart when he started wrestling in Stampede. After the initial 'McMahon sweep' of the territories, HTM came over with the second wave thanks to the Hulkster, and the rest was history.

I believe he actually got his first outfit from a fan who thought he had an 'Elvis look' to him, but didn't make any changes in Memphis because of Bill Dundee.

So, alot of this just played apart and he sort of morphed into a Country-playing Elvis impersonator.

Edit- Also an added note, had it not been for Butch Reed no-showing against Steamboat, we wouldn't had gotten HTM's reign, because it was supposed to go to Reed.

I wonder if Heath Slater wants his revenge for the guitar shot.

I always wanted to see a guitar match between HTM and Jeff Jarrett where they would take turns hitting each other with guitars (a brand new one for each strike) and the match ends when one man can't get up by the 10 count.

Honky was one of the best heels of all time because every title defense you always expected him to loose the belt, but always found a way to come back on top.

Here is still one of my favorite interviews of all time

That would be the greatest and funniest match ever. A WWE version of ro-sham-bo!

Lets see Honky win back the IC title for one night, thus becoming both the longest AND shortest reigning IC champ ever.

This video is ironic as it would be funny as hell seeing Cena do a post match promo like this in front of that crowd tonight. Honky Tonk Man tahnking the fans, yet the whole crowd hates him(which is also truth on his debut in the company as a face).

Seeing Macho also ironic as fans started to cheer for him to get back the belt after this.
