Question Rey Mysterio's future in question due to injuries

    credit wrestling observer newsletter

After the recent troubles with his knee that we've been covering this week, Rey Mysterio's future is in question. When he mentioned to one company official that he tore his good knee up about a week ago, it was brought up that he should consider retiring. While Rey avoided surgery this time, he is one major injury away from having to need a complete knee replacement. Rey currently has about one year left on his contract.

Spoilers, dude. Is it so hard to put spoilers in the title?

As far as Rey goes, he needs to hang 'em up soon for his sake and that of his family. While it would be nice for him to have a passing-of-the-torch moment with Sin Cara, it's not looking likely at this point.

How is this a spoiler? it has nothing to do with a storyline on the show.

He should go on and retire. I doubt hardly anyone even notices that he's gone, which means his importance on the show has come and gone.

Rey-rey is never going to get any higher than he has in the company, so he really aught to look at his long-term health, instead of his short-term cash flow. Best to hang 'em up and walk away while he can actually walk.

    Agreed.

The original thread title was ''rey mysterio retire'', that can be construed as a spoiler.

I don't see it as a spoiler to be honest, it doesn't relate to any current storylines. It's more an injury report.

It's also worth noting that there may be things you all need to consider about y2jman, do I really need to spell it out? I've seen it in a couple of threads now, give him a break is all I'm saying.

Thankyou to the staff member who put a *potential spoiler* in this thread title before I clicked on it, it's appreciated.

As for Rey, his time is gone and he needs to realise that. Del Rio is doing well as the new face for the latin demographic

It would be great if he could come back for one big match, maybe a retirement match at Summerslam?

Yeah he should probably look at retiring, but like others I dont see how this is even close to being a spoiler...spoilers have to do with storylines but NOT personal stuff like retiring.

Lol so many people complain about spoiler tags but I bet everyone reads them anyway even when they say spoiler

I think WWE needs to look at how they can send him off with one last match, without stressing his knees out - as in a proper storyline sendoff with one last match, rather than wrestling all the way to his last match. I think he deserves that, as opposed to a quiet fade out, however it definitely needs to happen very soon.

This is not a spoiler. It says that someone (who may not even be important) told him he should consider retiring, and that he is one injury away from knee replacement.

Anyway, I agree with KOTW's post. They should come up with a proper send-off match to do soon before they are in a position to not give him a meaningful final match (like Edge).

I feel bad for Mysterio. He wants to be in the ring, but keeps getting injured and winds up missing Wrestlemania after Wrestlemania because of it.

It would be great if he could come back for one big match, maybe a retirement match at Summerslam?
I'll be so disappointed if Mysterio Vs. Helmsley doesn't happen before Rey calls it quits.

Rey should take the year off, then come back at 30 and face Jericho in his last match.

Rey would be well-advised to retire at this point. He's fucked his body up pretty badly over the years, and I'm sure has earned enough to live comfortably. He could still do one-off shows and make appearances, but at this point he should seriously consider whether being a full-time active wrestler is in his best interests.

It's time he just retired he has not done anything in years bar his match with cena. And even then he should not have won the title.

He really should. The guy's knee explodes like once a year. It's not right.

That's the wrestling biz for you. Anyway rey should retire. I just fast forward through his matches these days anyway.
So it would be good for me and everyone else if he just retires.

The guy isn't even a shell of his former self. He's like a used condom of his former self. He loses ratings, his reactions are lackluster, and he can barely go at a fraction of the pace he used to.

    Just retire Rey.

Harsh, but true. Rey's been stale for a longgggg time - his reign as WHC a few years back was really sad.
