    Default Punk teaching Ryback

According to the Wrestling Observer, they are keeping Punk with Ryback on tour "because they still want to keep Ryback working with Punk to help teach him in-ring skills."

Wow. Talk about a sign of the times. The #1 contender to the biggest championship in the business is getting to wrestle the champion so he can improve his ring work.

Remember when the challengers actually deserved to be in the ring with the champ?

No. Putting Ryback with one of the stiffest guys in the company to make him safer to work with is NOT a good idea. Punk is most definitely a good idea.

Punk would be a good idea if he wasn't the champion.

It's not like he's teaching Ryback how to take fucking bumps. Shit, if ability was the most important thing for being a contender for the title, Warrior would never have known what the fucking belt LOOKED like.

Nor Hogan for that matter. I don't think this is a bad thing at all. They plan on pushing the guy massively here in the future, why not polish him up with one of the most consistent workers in the company?

Give him Cesaro, it'd accomplish the same thing and gives them both a nice program.

I think you just answered the question of, "Who's next!?"

Seriously, though, I have no problem with the idea of Punk helping Ryback polish up his in-ring work. I mean, he's rough but he's no greenhorn. Would it be better that this wasn't necessary? Of course. But Ryback's push and uncanny popularity warrant the card placement for the short-term, so long as he doesn't win the belt. So why not let him learn from one of the best in the business?

Seriously though, if they wanted him to get better, just have Punk bring back Finlay, and send Finlay after Ryback. After two months of repeated matches with Finlay, if Ryback shows no improvement, it's hopeless.

Ryback is the number one contender, the last challenger to the title, Punk's current nemesis - of course he'll be put with him on house shows. Makes tons of sense.

Punk has trained or taught many Superstars in the past. He is basically a locker room leader, has been for years now. So no surprise he's teaching Ryback.

I know he's a locker room leader, never heard anything about him training and teaching though. Could you shed some light on that?

I saw it on the DVD. I don't know any specific names. Probably mostly developmental guys.

Is there a problem with this? I mean, it does make sense to keep the previous challenger facing the champion at house shows. Especially one that's getting great reactions.

I think it was more of a mentor thing, just giving advice and teaching them certain stuff.

Now I just picture Ryback and Finlay stiffing the fuck out of each other. That sounds AWESOME.

Ryback has been in developmental for several, several years, yet he's still incompetent in the ring. Hard to foresee him having much longevity.

Ryback isn't incompetent in the ring, and there's nothing wrong with getting tips from one of the best in the business. I doubt Punk is teaching him the basics here.
