Whos matches are better
Steamboat vs flair is better
Cena vs punk is better
Whos matches are better
Punk vs Steamboat <.<
Flowers gathered in the morning,
Afternoon they blossom on,
Still are withered by the evening:
You can be me when I'm gone.
I say flair vs steamboat only because they had 1hr matches that kept you off ur seat the entire match with many near falls
Steamboat-Flair by FAR!!
I could name over 100 matches better then any of the ones Punk-Cena have had.
Steamboat-Flair's matches in 1989 and 1993 were some of the best matches in history
Far as storylines go. Punk/Cena smokes Steamboat/Flair.
Emotion: Cena/Punk
Characters: Cena/Punk. Only because Flair was so much cooler and Steamboat came through to fucking square.
Outt laying of matches:Tie. Neither group never really have had the same match.
Importance: Cena/Punk.
Steamboat-Flair in terms of match quality. From an in ring standpoint, one of the truly epic rivalries of all time. But in terms of what both men can give u charisma wise and putting on great matches as a package, Punk vs. Cena has the edge. Cena isn't the technician Flair, Steamboat, or Punk is. But the crowd has a huge emotional investment in his character. He transcends the sport and works damn hard in the ring. He's also a power guy\brawler who moves pretty good in the ring too. A few years ago, I thought Orton vs. Cena was gonna be the marquee rivalry to push WWE into the future. Now it appears Punk vs. Cena is gonna be the more memorable rivalry. But Cena-Punk-Orton is a great big three. WWE just has to let the young guys grow into superstars close or on their level. I think Punk is a guy on that HBK, Savage, Angle, Eddie, and Y2J, mode WWE wise. Which is a great all around in ring guy who is also very good to great on the mic. And Cena is in the megastar mode of Hogan, Austin, and Rock. With these kind of components, its bound to be a great rivalry!

Not sure if this is a fair comparison as the matches were from different eras and different companies.
Maybe more fair to compare Cena/Edge vs. Cena/Punk ?
The eras don't matter if the matches happened in the ring

Flair/Steamboat>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Cena/Punk!
I love Cena/Punk...but come on, Steamboat/Flair is one of the greatest rivalries of all time. I can only name maybe 3 or 4 that might be better and it's not Cena/Punk.
The matches were great. The Rivalry was to some a bunch of bullshit and turned the fans on Steamboat. Steamboat came in with the Family Man Gimmick and Respecting Flair so much, like it was almost Flair feeling sorry for him and not heeling it up like he wanted to. Flair said this was mostly Bonnie Steamboat's idea adn she pushed for it, but they wanted the cool Steamboat from 78-85, and not this cookie cutter Steamboat that came back from WWF. Hell, the matches were classic in the basic form of working a match from a in-ring stand point, very little to complain about from that aspect, but that fucking feud was dull. I remmeber brining this up in the old Smark Forum we had here a long time ago and people were on both sides of the argument.
The thing that put over most was...
What do you remember about that whole last match in the 89 series?
Steamboat should have turned heel during that feud. It would have been perfect. And it would have added a whole new fold to his career and at LEAST one more NWA World title run.
Pat Patterson: You could go in the middle of the ring right now, Ricky. Shoot Hulk Hogan with a shotgun and they will cheer you.
Would have loved to see a heel Steamboat. I remember Flair saying Steamboat can't be considered the greatest of all time cuz he never played a heel, which is bullshit. Hogan was called the greatest for years before NWO.
I think he was saying more that Ricky never realized his full potential. And Hogan started his career as a heel.
Yeah, but you'd be surprised how many people never knew about Grand Wizard and that gay purple cape he used to have.
