Earlier this year before Alberto Del Rio returned from injury, it was reported that Vince McMahon wanted to bring Del Rio back as a more aggressive heel.
WWE recently pulled the trigger on those plans and the idea going forward is that Del Rio will be more ruthless. Del Rio's recent attacks on Sheamus and Sin Cara are part of his new mean streak.

Worst idea. They should be turning him in to a funnier character with more personality, like what was shown in the MITB commercial. The serious destiny stuff has been boring for ages now, and this will just make it worse. Capitalise on the best part about him, which is Ricardo, and make him looser and more playful.

This will probably have a positive effect on his matches, which are already good, but he has such talent with little things like facial expressions, that will be wasted by making him a cookie-cutter ass kicker.

He lacks identity. Creative gave him nothing by penning him the same stupid destiny promo for months, and while I realise that stopped a long time ago, that is still the root of the problem. No one gives a shit about him, I used to think he was to blame, now I kind of feel sorry for the guy because when I look at him, there's lots he does right.

The Mr. Excitement gimmick was GOLD. The idea of the most boring guy ever thinking that everything he does is so exciting was a great new thing.

The product on the whole is up in 2012. Only EC was down by a considerable margin. The Rumble stayed almost exactly the same, and the others spiked. Maybe there's a peak in PPV interest? Could be a by-product of the quality of the PPVs this year.

And before any mentions it, yes I'm grasping at straws, and I'll continue to grasp at as many straws as I can before I face up to the fact that Johnny fucking Ace is a draw. Ergh.

A show headlined by Cena vs Johnny fucking ACE drew a big number. A Card everybody in the world said was going to be shit outside of DB/Punk and at the time they were losing ratings every week.

My only concern here is that he becomes another Santino. That is absolutely the last thing I would want to see. Ricardo is the clown of the two. ADR is the straight man.

The more I think about it, the more I kind of like the idea of an aggressive Del Rio coupled with Ricardo being Ricardo. Del Rio getting frustrated with Ricardo could make for good TV.

But maybe I just love Ricardo.

Fair point. I'm trying to think if this scenario has ever worked before and I can't really think of anything. The best I can think of is Austin '01, an ass-kicking heel surrounded by heaps of Alliance silliness. And it worked. But it isn't really the same thing.
