Question wwe network direct tv doesn't want it

    credit wrestling observer newsletter

Word is that DirecTV has no interest in carrying the WWE Network, which would knock about 30% of its potential revenue off. There's been talk that very few cable carriers are committing to paying a per subscriber rate for WWE's Network, which is what the company was counting on for profitability. The alternative is to be like HBO or Showtime and charge a subscription fee directly to consumers.

There's still no official word on when the Network will launch but they cut a new commercial for it this past week that should begin airing soon.

This is what I was afraid of. If the cable and satelite companies aren't interested in carring the network than it will just be a collosal failure. I expect to see adds run during Raw and Smackdown in a few months telling the fans to "call your cable provider and demand that they carry the WWE network". XFL2.0

Isn't this something they maybe should have figured out before even announcing the WWE network.

This is the WWE. You can't expect them to put the horse in front of the cart.

I don't think they could have gotten a commitment from any of the service providers until they had the ground laid for the network. I think they had to announce the the network to see how much public interest there was for it before going to the service providers. But that is just speculation on my part. My biggest concern is that my cable provider (comcast) won't carry it and that when the contracts are up with USA and SyFy, Raw and Smackdown get moved to the WWE Network. Then the E could use those shows as leverage to get more providers to carry them but it would still be a crapshoot. It just reminds me too much of WWECW. I didn't get SyFy until just a few months before they shut ECW down.

That just about does it for me then. I'm not interested in the channel one bit if I have to pay 12 bucks a month for it. And I'm a rabid sports fan who won't switch to any other provider, as directv is by far above all of it's competitors. Oh well.

WWE of course wanted to have cable providers give the network away without a subscription as it is win/win for them. They are in every home, and it appears to fans they get it for free. Of course the reality is everyone would be charged a new channel rate.

The plan was always to push for the best outcome, but be prepared to offer this as a subscription service, which it is already on some cable networks.

WWE will not move Raw to the WWE network. If anything, they will move Smackdown and air PPVs replays on it. But to get people to buy a WWE network, they still need to have new fans coming in and that is sole purpose of the TV shows.

WWE network doest interest me unless they are going to show Raw/SD starting at episode 1 and every pay per view. If they did that, which gave me a chanceto relive the attitude era and classics like the days of Ultimate Warrior and Macho Man (RIP) then i'd probably consider it.

The current plan for the WWE Network is to have every pay-per-view except WrestleMania be included. An alternate plan was all but two pay-per-views (WrestleMania and SummerSlam) being on the Network. WWE would continue offering pay-per-views like they always have to people whose cable companies don't have access to the Network or to people looking to buy just single events.

And of course I have Directv. Hopefully this is just part of the posturing between both sides and eventually they will come to an agreement I really want to see what the network has to offer.

I'll get the channel if Directv picks it up but if they dont its no big deal. My already bitches at me for having the full service package with all the shit and having NFL Sunday Ticket, NCAA College Game Plan, as well as all the the NBA, MLB, and NHL shit so I think she would be happy if they by passed this.

I can't believe the NFL network is successful as they only air 8 games a year. If the WWE network offered 8 PPVs, an exclusive hour of Raw every week...then maybe fans will pay 10 dollars for it.

10-12 dollars a month for a channel that has 50-60 dollar PPVs seems like a win situation if you ask me. But then again I still watch all the ppvs for free

    Its alot more than that.

The NFL Network had no games to begin with and went with original NFL programming and alot of analysis 24/7 , people at it up because it was an alternative to ESPN and they had alot of great content on there (still do) and well .. because the NFL is far away the most popular sport in America right now.

The WWE isnt in the NFL's league as far as popularity goes and has always been more of a niche program.

I'd be happy to see a WWE network...if I had cable. They certainly have enough history to deserve a channel and it would be sweet to just be able to change it over to see what random match happens to be playing or whatever. This is, of course, provided they plan to play old matches on it and not just current stuff.

I would think a lot of people would be interested in it and that they wouldn't have any issues getting it going.
