    Default The 2011 Era

Is it just me or is this a very underappreciated era? I remember not watching AT ALL because I had grown sick of the product. But one time I had the urge to watch highlights of the Hell in a Cell PPV. When I watched I was shocked. Every match seemed good..even the divas matches. Mark Henry vs Orton and Del Rio/Punk/Cena really did the trick for me. I noticed the PPV before and after even had some quality matches. I regret not tuning in during this time...I missed most of Henry's reign

Anyone agree? Or is this a flame war waiting to happen?

People at large rarely appreciate the contemporary in wrestling.

Match quality is not WWE's problem...it's the lack of good stories behind them that is.

I tend to disagree. I havent seen good matches in a while. At least consistently. That entire card was watchable, and full of action.
Besides, I liked Henry and Ortons feud.

IMO 2011 RR sucked. Everything leading up WM 27 was great. Including Mania itself. Raw was great, there was so much going on. Miz and Del Rio were on fire, Nexus was somewhat interesting with Punk. Christian vs Del Rio ladder match at Exteme Rules <- very underrated match! Then came one of the greatest angles of all time with CM Punk that led to Money in the bank.

Then it was all downhill from there. There wasn't much that I appreciated until TLC 2011, but that was a great PPV.

So no it was good and bad. Not very consistent but maybe the best year in a long time. I'll take any month of 2011 WWE over 2012 that's for sure.

Mark Henry's title run is the only storyline I've enjoyed in awhile. I just don't find any of the new era guy's interesting, with the exception of one or two. However for the most part fans seem to be happy with WWE's product, at least the ones I know of.

The PPV yes. The RR match itself? I loved. Especially the double false finish with Santino. Yea, it wasnt 1999 by any means, but if you compare it to 10 and 12 it was a mirage in a desert of shit. The consistency isnt as big a deal, as long as I can look forward to something besides Wrestlemania.

I really do miss early 2011. You had stuff like "I'm awesome!" and Miz going "really?..............really?.............really?" ......and Alberto Del Rio telling a hispanic crowd "but you!.........you came here like rats!". It was fun stuff and you could feel the new generation taking over.

Fast forward to 2012 and we have "because I'm CM Punk and I'm the best in the world" and Yes! Yes! Yes!...."Will I beat you? Yes!". CM Punk and Daniel Bryan are so predictable.

IMO these past few years the battles royals have been so bad. I can't really remember. John Morrison was great 2011 but other than that it was all bad as far as I can remember.

    I don't understand.

You're telling me that Miz saying those catchphrases every week is less predictable than Punk and Bryan saying theirs?

I thought WWE had some great moments in 2011, but you know you're in trouble when their biggest deal was Punk's character bitching like a diva....Yeah, your stories are severely lacking.

But hey, but if you loved the stuff, it's all good. The in-ring product was pretty consistent, though.

Maybe I don't know. I'm not the judge. To me it was so much more fun in early 2011. "I'm awesome" is not as predictable as "Best in the world" and "Yes! Yes! Yes!". In the history of pro wrestling, can you find two worse catchphrases?

That doesn't make any sense. Any catchphrase is as predictable as any other catchphrase.

As for which one you like better, to each his own. But you know that the guy is going to say his catchphrase damn near every week, no matter who it is.

Good point. LOL, I remember that because my friend would show me the DVR of RAW and let me glimpse it. But again, what I liked was the triad of Del Rio/Cena/and Punk. Del Rio's lack of character wasnt as evident, Punk had opponents, and Cena wasnt burrying guys left and right.

    Who is Cena burying?

And I thought ADR's lack of character was its most evident when he had to try to hold his own on the mic with Punk and Cena.

We are splitting hairs here but anyway, if you're fighting for the championship belt then "best in the world" and "yes!" kind of comes with the territory". Right? You could come up with something more for your catchphrase. Besides, Bret Hart already used it so it's old.

No, calling yourself the best isn't old. If you're the champion, you should believe you are the best wrestler in the world. Of course it comes with the territory, but Punk is good enough on the mic to where he doesn't need to come up with a bunch of catchphrases to fill his promos. That one is enough for him.

As for the yes thing, all you have to do is listen to how the crowd has taken to it to understand that it's working.

If you don't like the two guys, that's cool, but it seems like you're being a little nitpicky by saying their catchphrases are "predictable."

That's a good point. The problem is that tv-ratings are down and ppv-buys are down with Bryan vs Punk. IMO it's because they have thin and predictable gimmicks. Then they don't have the in-ring skills to back it up.

Punk is great when he gets the perfect angle and the right opponent to work with. By himself he's nothing. I am nitpicking, I agree with you on that. I don't like their gimmicks I think they're weak.

If Bret Hart already did it and it didn't' win any ratings wars maybe you should give it a rest ok?

Punk blatantly exposed and pissed on ADR's character. Yeah sure, ADR kinda sucks, but Punk showed him no mercy when he needed to show some for kayfabe's sake.

Eh, he told it like it was. If ADR wasn't so boring in the first place, Punk wouldn't have called him out on it.

Alberto Del Rio is a better wrestler than Punk, he just saddled with a limited gimmick.

I imagine that if Punk didn't put ADR down, we'd have been stuck with him for a few more months. It was a mercy killing.

Punk telling ADR he sucked on the mic was undermining. It was no different, then Angle, Jericho, and Hunter all telling Cena he can't wrestle and they get cheered more then him in 2005-06.

I don't particularly think he sucks on the mic. I find him way better then someone, like say, Sheamus
