The lights darkened and this signaled the entrance of the so-called “Perfect Weapon” Delirious
! Back from the brink of insanity, the masked menace, a newly regained grip on reality etched across his calm face, the shoeless former minion of nefarious means heads to the ring, alone, that the key aspect. There is no sign of The Batiri on this night and as he rolls into the ring and crawls to the corner, hunched on his knees, it seems Delirious on this night doesn’t want, nor feel he needs any help to achieve his one major goal.
Next, it’s the arrival of the man who molded Delirious into who he was, and remains as today. The crowd are knelt and bowing at the feet of just one man, making it clear who it is. Cradle of Filth erupts from the speakers, which heralds the incoming figure of one UltraMantis Black
! His staff held high, Black makes a circle of the ring before entering the battleground, only for Delirious to roll out to the ring apron. Black slams his staff down in the corner of the ring before doing his pre-match ritual, removing his cloak and turning his gaze to his nemesis …
As the light brightens and the hard rock fades to nothing, an air of extreme nervousness at what may be to come fills the air as Black maintains a glare at Delirious, the latter climbing back into the ring from the ring apron. Tentative steps are taken as the two-approach eachother, one foot at a time, but then, they stop. Bryce Remsburg
is back and the only person separating them as Black shakes his head and Delirious nods his before muttering the words “TWO YEARS!” under his breath in repeated fashion, his head turned to its side, a delicate stroke of his long beard hiding a deep, dark intent that burns deep within his soul.
The bell is allowed to ring and many seconds pass until the action truly commences. An encircling filled with question, desire and a whole load more emotions are resident as both men try to look for an opening. Black seems a lot more progressive in his attack than Delirious who hangs back, motioning to Black to come at him. UltraMantis has never been one to refuse an offer, accepting and coming at Delirious with some of his best striking power!
Delirious is rocked, unsuspecting of the sheer ferocious intent of the attack, that surprising in itself given their long history. Showing his newer, smarter self, a roll to the outside allows Delirious to take time to recover and when Black, buoyed by the crowd and his wanting of revenge for the last six months follows him out there, Delirious pounds, driving his naked feet into the chest of Black, the evil do-gooder hitting his head hard against the ring apron!
Bouncing violently away, Delirious licks his lips like a maniacal serial killer, dragging Mantis up by his antenna’s and tossing him into the ring. Coming back in himself, Delirious encircles Black, his feet tiptoeing around his prey, every couple of seconds driving his foot into the back. This continues to be the story for the next period of action, a controlled madness pouring out from all over Delirious as he physically dissects his former teacher in all things evil, the dissection eerily similar to the sort of thing you’d see in a school classroom …
The turning point only comes when Black, out of nowhere, develops a resolute defiance whilst locked in Delirious’ cobra clutch. Refusing to have the indignity of tapping out, Black musters all his powers, of which he has many, to somehow gain enough strength to reach out and grab the ropes. This doesn’t shock Delirious; instead, he gets to his feet and lets out a slight chuckle before an expression of stoney realization that the job isn’t done crosses his face.
As the match continues, both men start to shape up even better than before, but the match as a contest, it’s incredibly even. The knowledge both men have of what the other is thinking and will do next is marked. Though this knowledge looked to be driving this match toward a stalemate, the wildcard of Delirious’ new frame of mind always worked into the equation, many differing attitudes coming to the fore and surprising UltraMantis Black, no more so than when Delirious attempted, and nearly executed a Moonsault from the top rope!
This wasn’t the last time he was to go up high however, Delirious returned to this strategy as the match paced quickened, courage shown as Black knelt on his knees in the center of the ring. Setting himself, Delirious screamed “BABYLON APPROACHES!” before diving through the air and hitting the Shadows Over Heck! His crazed cackle heard all around the building, Delirious crawled forward and hooked the leg, convinced that it was all over … only for UltraMantis Black SOMEHOW … SOMEHOW … to kick out at the count of two!!
This time though, there was no calm reflection. With the cheering of the audience ringing in his ears, this threatened to tip Delirious’ over the edge. Stalking Black, pacing around him, Delirious pulled at the tassels hanging from his mask, tugging at his beard, small hairs seen loosening as what Black called the TRUE Delirious threatened to break out through the shackles after six months …
Heading to the corner, Delirious looks ahead and reaches out his hand, before grabbing for the staff of UltraMantis Black and gaining possession of it! Delirious lifts it high as he mumbles something to himself, but Black sees this and dives forward, shooting Delirious back and sending the staff flying through the ropes and to the outside!
Black shouts as he claws away at the ropes, gaining his footing. Both men recover at the exact same moment and launch forward, fists flying, the nature of the match, for the first time since the star, now showing the chaotic edge that we had come to expect from the two. As the crowd roared on Black with the punches continuing to be thrown, with no let up by either, the arrival of three men caused a scene, those three men being Obariyon, Kobald
of The Batiri
Like the plague, they come from nowhere and spread like wildfire all over ringside, but their presence, it isn’t a distraction. Indeed, the only distraction comes for The Batiri themselves, because when they look around, out of the curtain they see the towering presence of a returning Crossbones
, led by “The Nightmare Warrior” himself … Hallowicked
! The Spectral Envoy was here to even the odds!
All hell threatens to break loose … AGAIN … but as the six threaten to come to blows as they inch toward eachother, a shocking and incredible scene erupts as UltraMantis Black and Delirious stop their war and turn their attention to ringside! The six defenders of their respective dark arts look at their leaders who both shake their heads and with that simple shake of the head, the six part ways, but not without baying from both sides for war. Encouraged by Black and Delirious, the six some disappear through the crowd in different directions …
… but back inside the ring, the war has come to a halt. The two, who just showed a rare, and quite disturbing united front come together once again, but it doesn’t take long for the action to resume, those same punches continuing!
However, Black miscalculates an attempted Suplex and after wriggling out behind him, Delirious snaps the neck of Black, turning him round, kicking him low and locking his arms. He looks around before lifting him up … PRAYING MANTIS ATTEMPT … but Mantis holds on! Mantis uses the gravity of his wobbling legs to try and get free and despite repeated attempts, Delirious is forced to relent!
Delirious throws himself into the ropes, he comes back … DROPKICK! Black is thrown violently back into the corner of the ring, his head against smashing against something, this time the turnbuckle, he falls to a seated position as Delirious readies himself in the opposite corner … Delirious runs like an express train, he’s looking for the Panic Attack!
… drop toehold by Black! It’s Delirious’ time to rock off of the solid steel of the turnbuckle, he bounces out, Black scurries across the ring, he scouts Delirious as he rocks and rolls, he turns and is powerless as Black kicks him in the right knee, then the left knee before hooking his arms. Black doesn’t waste a second as he lifts him high; he turns 90 degrees before thundering Delirious down neck and head first with the Praying Mantis Bomb! Delirious is out! Black falls to the mat, he crouches over Delirious, he hooks the leg eventually, the count is begun … 1 … 2 … 3! ULTRAMANTIS BLACK HAS WON THE WAR!
The public lifts as one to congratulate a CHIKARA icon as he finally, for a night at least, puts to bed the war with his former Perfect Weapon. Black throws himself off of Delirious before retreating backwards. Getting to his feet, he throws his arms around beside him as he kicks at the ropes, his aggression, passion and anger from the last six months all bottled up and released in those last few precious moments that declared the victory for The Envoy’s leading light!
As Bryce retreats from the ring, Black gains his composure as he stands in the center of the ring, looking out on his adoring audience. He is handed his staff by a member of the ringside crew and he looks at it before adjusting the top of it ever so slightly before lifting it high, a sign of defiance and victory, snatched from the jaws of defeat and decimation.
Grabbing his head and shaking it at regular intervals, Black looks down at his befallen one-time minion. There is no gloating however. Black simply looks, stares in fact, shaking his head in apparent disappointment as he leaves the ring. Making his way toward the curtain, he takes one look back, a reflection if you will, and he’s surprised to see that all of a sudden, Delirious is up and alert!
Black stops dead in his tracks, wiping the sweat from his body, he looks on as Delirious peers through the middle ropes, his eyes wide and bright, he nods his head before murmuring “Thankyou” before a laugh that can be heard in all bordering states threatens to deafen all in the building.
Taken aback by the reaction, Black’s body language has obviously changed as he stands and continues to stare, but Delirious does too. Now biting the ropes, Delirious maintains a mad glare at the man he once looked up to as something of a god.
It was thought and speculated by UltraMantis Black himself that Delirious was a shell of the perfect weapon he designed and used to his success for so long, but on this night, in defeat no less, it seemed a measure of the old Delirious still lived strong and seemed ready to burst out of its fiery, locked confines …
The question had been asked, was this an end? Probably not …
The truth was, this was just the beginning. The beginning of a long and torturous road, the question that could be asked now was what came next and would anyone involved, let alone the two main architects in UltraMantis Black and Delirious, make it as far as 2014 and The Babylon the latter had quoted?
On that note, Give ‘em The Axe came to an end, an apt name for what had been one of the most chaotic and brutal nights CHIKARA had seen.
