This fits the thread. So I'm on ebay trying to decide between a Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, or a N64. Which one should I get? In your opinion, which one has the best game library?

    SNES, by far.

Yeah, honestly, I barely played FFIX for the first time just a year or two ago, so I was a little late on it, but once I played it, I loved it. Definitely in my top three with FF4 and 6.

Depends...the N64 was the first really good 3D system (PSX took years to get it right) with 4 controller ports and a load of sweet multi-player games--wrestling, Super Smash Bros., Goldeneye and Diddy Kong Racing just scratch the surface of what that machine could offer a crowd of gamers.

The SNES was a big leap forward in 2D graphics and sound, but its library is somewhat overrated. Once you get past the revolutionary RPG and platforming titles, there are a lot of poor games in there, and a number of the cross-platform titles (MK, sports stuff) actually played better on the Genesis.

Speaking of...the Genesis offered much of what the SNES could, and couldn't, for a small drop in AV quality. Most gamers, retro or otherwise, still don't realize the depth of its library or the number of gems that were out there beyond Sonic. Dragon's Fury, Gunstar Heroes, Ecco the Dolphin 1 and 2, TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist, Wonder Boy in Monster World, Landstalker, Castlevania: Bloodlines, Shining Force 1 and 2...and last but not least Pier Solar, an RPG released in 2010. (Fascinating story behind that; you can look it up.) Great as the 64 and SNES were, I love the Genesis more than either one.

Not sure if you've already ordered a system but if I had to choose one it would be a Super Nes.

I've been playing some MechWarrior II and Final Fantasy IX lately. MWII was one of the first video games I ever played when I started out on my dad's computer, along with Lands of Lore. The PSX version of it is pretty darn good.

As for FFIX, that's awesomeness personified. I just escaped from the Evil Forest and am now crashing in Dali. Princess Garnet (Dagger) has to make do without a private room for once, everyone in town is afraid of Vivi and the innkeeper is a narcoleptic who talks to his cat.

Played it a few months ago. Was decent. Downside is that there were areas that were just never-ending tunnels, which really only serve to make the game longer for the sake of being longer.

Just reviving this thread because I found Donkey Kong Country at a Goodwill for $1.99. Crazy! You'd have to pay ten times as much with retro stores or eBay. That whole DKC series was the shit in the mid-90s, especially the music. DKC2 had the best score of the generation, bar none.

I just visited the retro game store in my old neighborhood. They're still hanging on, and I gave them about $70 worth of business; they deserve it. I hope places like this never disappear. Gamespot and eBay just can't give you the same experience.

One game I picked up was Baseball Stars for the NES. That game was an unforgettable part of my childhood and now I finally have it back. My dad built an elite team that kicked everyone's ass; my brother and I never could beat him.

You know when I was a kid I beat the shit out of Donkey Kong Country and I bought it the other day on Virtual Console on the Wii and it frustrated the shit out of me. I use to own King K. Rool's ass. I forgot the strategy to beat him.

So I just bought Majora's Mask and realized I needed an expansion pak. I opened my system and saw a red pak in there. Am I all set or were there different versions of the pak which would mean I need a specific one.

Ok so I tried it 4 times.

    1. Died in 15 seconds.
    2. Died in 30 seconds.
    3. Got to the village area, then died.
    4. Got to the graveyard area, then died.

-The opening menu is one of the worst i've seen on an NES title...seriously, can't they even properly center it?
-Why is there a lady in a dress to open the first level? She serves no purpose at all.
-Good lord it's a bitch to move Jekyll, he's so slow and the controls feel so akward.
-I wouldn't call these parts hard, just tedious.
-Ok so after Jekyll gets killed, you get to play as Hyde.
    -I call these parts hard.
-The fireballs, dogs, and birds, ok. But how the fuck am I supposed to dodge the brains?
-Atleast Hyde feels more comfortable to control.
    -One life? Seriously?
-I kinda wanna play it again...I don't have any idea why.

For those of you who grew up in the 8 bit era...you have my sympathy.
