It's why they introduced the seemingly side plots like Dorne and the Iron isles then tied them up quickly because they don't know what to do with them.[B] Every change they've made from the books has been either downright bad or nonsensical at worst.[/B}
I don't think it was bad story telling at all. He paralyzed him and left him for dead. The kid knew what was about to happen and knew Lancel had ZERO chance of surviving it. No need for a coup de grace. If you criticize the show for that, you may as well criticize about 99% of TV and Cinema out there.

Leaving out the Young Griff story line was a great choice IMO. It's easily one of the worst from the books and is wholly unneeded . Not to mention it came across like a complete and utter ass pull. Also some characters would have been difficult to pull off in live action....Strong Belwas and the Brave Companions in particular.

The changes to Cersei are 100% dead on IMO. Cersei from the books was so stupidly evil she was practically a caricature. Half of Feast of Crows is about just how much of a stupid evil bitch Cersei is.

There is no way they could have adapted the Kingsmoot in it's entirety , that would have taken up at least half the season on it's own to do right.

If they would have used Daario Naharis straight from the book he would have looked RIDICULOUS on screen. I would have liked to have seen Lady Stoneblood, but I can understand why she was left out. They already showed Beric's resurrection AND Jon Snow's, doing it for a 3rd character may have been a bit much.

Dorne wasn't exactly great in the books either, the Arianne Martell/Gerold Dayne sections were particularly bad. Really the show should have left Dorne out altogether, instead they adapted the worst parts of it, and ruined several characters in the process.

No you've gone too far here. Since he almost made it to the candles he obviously didn't have zero chance. It's not even conclusive whether he was stabbed in the back as you say or the leg or the ass. Take a look at the scene again. Plus he's a kid not a surgeon. Cersei conducts the whole thing like a Bond villain. It's utterly corny. She lures Lancel down there like the Bond villain that tells Bond his whole plan before slowly lowering him into a shark tank and leaving the room. The kid had no way of knowing whether Lancel could make the flame in time or not. And yes the whole the hero stops the bomb's countdown at 3... 2... 1... oh he saved the day is utterly cliched, lazy and done to death. She's even dressed as a Bond villain.
    Spoiler

Another thing I just remembered why did Lancel follow a random kid in the first place

I'm not so much talking about what they left out. I accept that some things had to be omitted. I'm talking about what they have added in it's place. I'm sure I'll forget a few things but for instance

the whole Night's watch deserters took so much screen time and had plot hole's and didn't make much sense. It wasn't nearly as good as the book plot it replaced.

Swapping out Sansa for Jeyne Poole. It totally ruined Sansa's character arc to have her be raped.

Jaime's character arc. The changes they made make no sense when he ends up at the same place he is in the books. He's twisted and turned on a dime regarding his honour, principles and motivation and his feelings for Cersei.

They screwed up Jaime for the Dorne plot. Which is all them. Honestly I think if the whole point of Dorne's addition to the TV series was to kill off Myrcella they should have cut it completely and bumped her off a different way. I can't see any other real reasons for it being there apart from introducing the sand snakes who haven't really been introduced very well at all. I'd be surprised if many show only viewers could name them.

There's a few that spring to mind but they've changed so many more characters for very little reason. I think almost everyone forgave the deserters story line when it happened because it was the first real time they'd made any major changes. But looking back now it stands out as a sign of things to come.

He can't move his legs it's pretty obvious he's paralyzed. If he were stabbed in the leg or the ass he could have gotten up and walked over to the candles. Logic dictates he was stabbed in the back, and indeed when you look at the video he was stabbed just above the rope on his robe...ie around the small of his back.

Really the only legit question mark is why did Lancel follow the kid in the first place?

From that scene; it was clear that the plan was to make Lancel suffer but not explicitly kill him prior to the explosion. It's why he was left alive because Cersei has specific hate towards him. And it worked by giving him the illusion that he could stop it. What's worse than giving you the illusion of hope and to be a hero (knowing what will happen should you fail) and knowing you can't do a thing about it.

I just came here to post the link and thank you for already doing that!

    YOOOOOOO THAT SHIT LOOKS SICK!

I love the speech about all the families fighting the common enemy that's real and has always been real. The motherfucking White Walkers. Winter is here and I can't fucking wait for this shit to get going. Let's fucking go clock. I can't wait to see this shit. I don't see Jon Snow surviving the whole series. All Men Must Die and a woman will reign at the end. So I'm prepared for that, but I'm prepared for the awesomeness beforehand. So let's fucking go!

    BERIC.

    FUCKING.

    DONDARRION.

I think Jon Snow gets a super group to go north of The Wall. I think that circle of people they keep showing is Jon, Davos, Tormund, Beric, Thoros, The Hound...not sure who else could be in there. Probably Edd, maybe Arya depending on when she shows up at Winterfell this season (she's definitely heading north in the trailers).

If Jon decides to head back to Castle Black and go north of The Wall, that could mean he leaves Sansa at Winterfell with Littlefinger and that's where all his scheming comes in to play. I wonder if Sansa finds herself in trouble and Arya shows up in the knick of time. So hard to guess what's going to happen, I love it.

Guhh I'm so excited. I can't wait to see Dothraki kicking some serious ass in Westeros.

Yeah and Jon Snow is totally The Lonewolf. He's not surviving this show. He will be immortalized in the new world with tales and such. He will go down as The Lonewolf as he truly was in his family. Epic storytelling coming right up.

Sansa is going to go at it with Daenarys. You just watch. Sansa is going to be Queen of the Throne when this series wraps up. She will fucking deserve it too, after she cuns her way to the top. So many main characters are going to get killed and ripped out of our lives in this season. I don't think we realize how fucking fucked up this is going to get for us hard loving fans of this show. Get ready for chaos!

That one didn't do it for me as much as the last one, but this season I think I'll get the true GOT experience since basically all characters I like are still alive so I never got to feel true loss. I'd take Sansa over Daenerys.

I think Sansa's line in the trailer was more of a proverb, like "united we stand, divided we fall." Not saying you're wrong, I could totally see Jon dying a hero too, that's just how I took it.

I don't see how she comes to not like Daenarys though. There's definitely a women ruling theme coming this season. Cersei took King's Landing, Sansa should be Warden of the North (except she married Ramsay and there was the whole KINGINDANORF part 2 with Jon at the end of season six), Yara wants to rule the Iron Islands and Dany is coming to conquest the whole damn thing. I think Littlefinger tries to make Sansa turn on Jon, she doesn't, Sansa takes out Littlefinger and then Jon maybe dies anyway and Sansa is named Warden of the North by Dany.

Well guys enjoy this as this series will go unfinished in book form. Like seriously GRRM where is book 6? A Dream of Spring will remain just that, a dream at this point.

I'm pretty sure that the book will never come out and people will have to live with the "what would he have done differently?" questions their whole lives. I'm just glad that the show is awesome.

I'm convinced that the books will be finished by someone if GRRM doesn't finish them before he's gone from this world. Consider this though: he could have the books completed if the show wasn't as popular as it is, or if it were never picked up as a TV series, or if they waited until the books were finished before starting the show. All the reasons the books have been delayed are because GRRM himself has chosen to spend his time on other things, which tells me he's creatively satisfied with the show and everything going on with that (and I'm sure the crazy amounts of money he's raking in doesn't hurt either).

Point is, whether he finishes the books or not, he's known to have countless notes on the world he's created and has told his editor, publisher and the show creators how he intends to end the story. If he goes, the book series will still get finished one way or another, especially when you consider the show may end completely different than how the books will end.

What GRRM says in public about the show and what he thinks privately I think are different things. In public he talks up the show and it's emmy wins. But really would you expect otherwise? To come out and say so, nah this is business. However some of the people closest to him have spoken out. 100% agree about Ser Loras. Also I really think they should have kept Garlan Tyrell instead of adapting him out.

I was fine with the Barristan Selmy changes though. They needed to have Tyrion on the show, and in the books he is part of what IMO is one of THE WORST storylines....the Young Griff arc. So they (wisely) adapt Young Griff out, but they need shit for Tyrion to do. Solution? Give him Ser Barristan's role in the books and kill him off. Not a perfect solution by any means, but honestly the best one they could come up with.

Yeah they weren't particularly changes that got be riled up. Although I will say I actually love Tyrions journey to Mereen. I know I'm in the vast minority on that one as most people found it boring, that section is derisively called the travel logs by people. But when I was reading it I was imagining where they'd film it. I was thinking maybe somewhere in Africa. It sort of reminded me of the film The African Queen. Or I was thinking maybe the everglades or something, somewhere that just looks completely different and exotic.

I'm reminded a bit of what I've heard about the Wheel of Time series -- a fantasy series in which the author died while writing the last part of the series. Someone else took over from the notes, and while it stayed true to what the creator had in mind the book series went from sort of meandering and exploring the universe at large into hitting the plot points in order "and this happened and then this happened and then story's over, go home folks."

It was there and it wasn't the same, and while I haven't read Song of Fire and Ice I sort of feel the same thing is happening here. The show-original plotline seems far more straightforward, with less plot twists and turns than I expected. I assume the books and the show will generally end in sort of the same place, though I do think the books will be better scripted.

I'm convinced that the GOT story is all being written by Sam and after a King or Queen sits on the throne at the end of all the destruction, we will see an older Sam telling the story to a bunch of kids or finishing up the book he has written about everything he has seen in his life.

In the end, there is just no way Jon Snow survives.

Also, my wife is sick and tired of hearing me talk about GOT.

On the other hand, I have YouTube where I have been watching the trailer breakdown and holy shit at some of the things I've seen by watching that.

    Spoiler

I put it in spoilers, just because I don't know how right I am. I could be wrong, but I'm super excited.

So let me run this by a few people here.

I've been floating this theory around at work for the last bit given some of the bits in the last trailer (mixed with some of the events from the previous seasons) ... it's not really a spoiler but ... I have a theory that both of the remaining Stark sisters will die (one literally and the other metaphorically) by the end of the series. Specifically Sansa dying after or just before becoming Warden of the North (as I suspect Jon will not end the series as that) and Arya (someone already thought of as being dead) literally becoming "Sansa."

How did you come to this conclusion? Or is it just a feeling you have?
