On Sunday April 5th 2009 a buddy of mine called me pissed and said his 360 had 3 red lights. I laughed and made fun of him. About 4 hours later my brother called and told me his 360 no longer shows any picture. We tried 2 different TVs, my component cable, my buddies component cables and even a composite cable no picture at all. A signal is not even being sent to his TV.... I laughed and made fun of him then I go home and turn my 360 on the game I was playing freezes. Turn it off turn it on and it freezes again. This time I get 3 red lights.

I was not angry but instead I laughed at the irony.

Played through Uncharted: Drake's Fortune on my PSTriple and what a fucking game. I had forgotten how amazing it was. Gonna get back into Disgaea 3 now that trophies have been added and am just awaiting on my box to send my 360 in to get fixed.

I always defended the 360 but now after having two crap out on me... I might change my tune.

Also for the love of god pick up Suikoden for the DS. What a fantastic game and thankfully they didn't ruin it with shit touch controls. (h)

360 comes running down to help Poop who is being beaten up by The PS3

360 is about to attack the PS3 when...BOOM! poop hits 360 with a chair and shouts "I loved you! I loved you!" while he and PS3 stare down at it

But...yeah...that sucks man.
:$

Microsoft really needs to step up about that.

I know it's not dead, but after going to my Mom's I forgot the power plug to the wall; so until I can get it back, I have a fairly expensive paper weight sitting on my dresser.

It's crap like this that makes me wish all consoles were made out of nintendium.

Every person I know got the red ring/ some kind of internal problem in their 360. Some not even 6 months in. I know one guy who's about to get a PS3 cuz of it...

But they aren't that great either. I had to send mine in to Sony when it broke on CHRISTMAS! BTW I take care of my stuff, CD Drive broke apparently it's common in 40 gigs.

Another friends Wii stopped working also.

Why the hell do we pay 2-6 hundred dollars for things that break so F*in easily?

It's crazy how things like that happen, three break at the same time more or less.

A year and a half, my brother and I got our 360's on the same day, and run them almost constantly. They both run perfectly fine.

I wanted to get an xbox (for all the the ps games that aree on it, except MGS4 ) but hearing stories like this its a definite no. I have a super nintendo, n64, ps1 and they all still work, so its a joke for people to be happy they work for a full year etc.

I used to be preaching the same song. Got my 360 in October 2007, no problems at all until a week ago. Bam, RROD. I'm devastated because I've had so much time off recently :(

Wooooooow, now here's every 360 fan wet dream.

It's not: "I bought mine a year and a half ago and been playing all the time, thank god I didn't get a Wii or a Ps3...."

But more like: "I bought mine a year and a half ago, and it's still running :jumpjacks:"

Had my 360 for 2 years before the RROD appeared. Yesterday for the first time ever my PS3 broke. I had a PS1 for 5 years and a PS2 for like 6 years and neither had one issue. I've had my PS3 for just over 1 year and "BAM" it stopped reading discs. Just got off the phone today with a Sony rep so I can send my system out to get repaird. $149 they're charging me. :(

Theres a one year warranty on it. I missed the warranty expiration by 4 fucking days. The cunt bastards. :@

Why can't all systems be as durable as Nintendo makes theres? If only we could get Nintendos awesome hardware combined with anything elses software then bliss would be found in my saddened video gaming heart.

Apparently after only sending my 360 off Wednesday morning my console has been repaired and shipped. I just checked Purolator's site and the status pretty much says it's been scanned and will be delivered tomorrow morning.

That was extremely quick. Not even a full 48 hours and already my 360 is on the way back.

Shame too cause I am having a lot of frustrating fun with Burn Zombie Burn... if that even makes sense.

Around 48 hours later and my 360 is hooked back up and working. I'm really impressed it only took 2 days. I thought for sure at least 2 weeks just like the last time I sent it in.

The new ones fixed RROD, but now have E74. E74 is not covered through the RROD extended coverage plans.

I would love a 360, but when people feel thankful theirs did not break in under a year, I am not to confident in the system. Moreso since they fixed one problem and still have more or less the same issue.

Actually, E74 IS covered now :) I made a thread about it :$ It's said E74 is linked to RRoD, so it is covered under the RRoD policy now, and they gave everyone who had already paid to have it fixed a refund.

E74 is covered now, but I still worry about what the next problem with the console is going to be. Will they cover that problem too? It's something that nobody should have to worry about when they buy a console.

The other thing that bothers me is 10 years down the road, who knows if my 360 will still work? It definitely won't be covered by warranty anymore. The next Xbox might not be backwards compatable, so how would I play any of the 360 games I own if it ever breaks?

The PS3 is just a safer buy.

I've had my Wii die on me, and my buddies crapped out on him too... everyone's 360's (who I know) have died, including my own... ps3's are pretty much universally known to be practically bullet proof, I don't know anyone, other than 1 guy on a video games forum and those people that you mentioned, had a ps3 that has died. Umm, the 360's failure rate reported by Square Trade is 1 out of 6 fail. That is a HIGH rate of failure. Also since it is an overheating issue, sooner or later almost all will fail. So yeah, Microsoft obviously streamlined their replacement system. They had no choice otherwise since the hardware sucks.

I believe Microsoft failed to disclose the official failure rate. The fact people dismiss the failure rate is scary. If 1 out of every 10 300 dollar TV's stopped working within a 2 year period would you still spend the cash on that TV or get a different brand?

I don't think anyone really dismisses it. And there are no 'different brands' of a gaming console. You can't really compare something that there is only one brand of to something that has tons of brands.

In the next gaming generation I really doubt I will be sticking with Microsoft. I had a 360 die off on me and seeing it was too expensive to purchase a PS3 and seeing I already had the games and such, I just bought a new 360 with a warranty. I believe the warranty is three years, which $220 should be guaranteed to last me longer than that, but hopefully a PS4 will be out by the time my 360 dies on me.

The fans are dismissing it by continuing to purchase the faulty product. If people boycotted till their was a fix, you can bet Microsoft would have fixed the problem or put out a new console without the faulty parts. But instead people buy a system with a 15 percent fail rate that seems to increase over time allowing Microsoft to continue as if nothing was wrong.

The failure rate has dropped just on this page alone according to your posts. First it was 1/6 which by my calcs is 16.66%. Now you've got it listed as 15%. Looks like Microsoft is on top of things.

Also, boycotting. When was the last time this actually worked? It's the same thing as an internet-rallied petition. There is no way to reach the masses anymore. The buying demographic is so diverse that unless Oprah tells the world to quit buying 360's, it's not going to happen.

And people continue to buy it because they like it. I own all three systems. I bought the Wii for the purpose of the party play. It comes out when everyone is over. Now that I don't drink or host parties anymore, it sits on the shelf along with my hopes of selling it for what was paid for it. My first system was the 360. I bought it. I played it. I loved it. But then PS3 came along and everyone* loved it and recommended it over the big bad 360. So I bought it. To date, it's the only system that I've had any trouble with. My BluRay player hasn't worked since I got it. Sony told me it's because I needed to update my system. Because I don't play games online, they sent me a disc that would have an update on it. Didn't work. So they told me the only way would be to hook it up to my network and download the update. I hooked it up to my network. But not really since it can never recognize my IP address for longer than about 3 seconds. I've tried going direct link with cable and wireless and neither work. So I have a system that collects dust and only gets played when on the rare event that a game comes out just for PS3 that I want to play (there have been 2 to date, neither of which have the replay-ability to keep me going back to it.) But the 360 on the other hand, connected to the network just fine. First time go.

So you tell me. Is the changing failure rate worth owning a 360? Yeah. I'd say so. Since the failure rate for my 360 is 0%. I've had exactly zero issues with it and it is time and time again the system I go to for everything. The PS3 and Wii.. yeah, they're nice to have sitting on my shelf. But that's become just about how useful they are. Decorations.

*Everyone being everybody who I've talked to who owns the PS3 and generally now has a stake in its success so they trash the 360 so that the PS3 can be glorified in the console war.
