What does everyone think is the best SmackDown game for the PS2? I suspect that Here Comes The Pain will get many votes, but for me it's SmackDown vs Raw 2006.
That game introduced a new fighting system, had great graphics, and the best roster of Legends for a SmackDown game. Plus, the story mode was good too.
What gets your vote, and why?

I gotta go with "Shut Your Mouth". The character models in that one were almost spot on and they weren't exaggerated...The animations were awesome too. I also really enjoyed the fast paced gameplay along with its simplistic control scheme. The career mode was pretty cool too and the storylines in it were some of the WWE's best.
The only real fault with the game is that it lacks some of the deeper gameplay mechanics found in wrestling games today...Like body specific damage and all that jazz.

I liked "here comes the pain" because of the roster, but I liked 06 for the dream match of triple h versus brutus "the barber" beefcake.
HCTP was the last great wrestling game. I enjoyed SD! vs. Raw, but became tired of it thereafter.
Shut your Mouth easily
I <3ed the story mode

here comes the pain.
possibly the best roster ever and i thought all the play mechanics were at their best here minus the submission system, tables were also at their best here were you could stack them and just do more w/ them.
many a time i killed my friends using nash and powerbombing them over the top to the floor through a table(s). hogan also had his awesome hendrix theme.
Story Mode for Shut Your Mouth was great but once you play Here Comes the Pain's matches, you can tell a big difference. You had very limited moves in Shut Your Mouth, but overall it's a older game, so it's forgivable, but I still love Here Comes the Pain so much better.
Playing my friends in the Elimination Chamber and Fatal 4 TLC matches was hours of enjoyment.

I've only played HCTP so it got my vote. My friend created about 20 different GIJOE characters in the Create-a-Wrestler and they are pretty much spot on. Too much fun to be had.

Shut your Mouth was the only wrestling game I've ever felt I could play for a long time and not get bored. The story mode was awesome, and multi-player provided entertainment for hours.
In fact, HCTP wasn't too far behind SYM, but SYM is definately my favourite of all time.
I think I'd say Here Comes The Pain. But there was also something about Just Bring It. It might be because it was the first one.
The thing I also liked about Shut Your Mouth that I forgot to mention, it was kind of an open world wrestling game. You could pretty much walk anywhere. Sure they made the lazier way where you could find the wrestlers via menu, but I loved having the opportunity to walk anywhere I wanted. It pretty much expanded the season mode by an hour or more if you was looking for an extra challenge.
Though, despite that, my answer is still Here Comes the Pain. I bought the multiple controller port thing just for that game alone.

Of course everyone was going to pick HCTP...but I must admit that SDVR2006 was damn good. I loved it.
Everything else...meh!
Oh no and about SYM...I totally got it mixed up with JBI...
I did like SYM, but HCTP blew it out of the waters... :$

Had to pick Shut Your Mouth, despite having an absymal title.

Yeah, all too similar today, they cut corners.

Here Comes the Pain was the absolute best (edges out Shut Your Mouth by having the better roster), not only that..but it was the last one that was any fun.

Yeah I can't justify spending 50-60 every year for minor tweaks and a somewhat updated roster. Didn't help that I'd play the game for a month and then never touch it again.

Either SYM or HCTP for me. Every game since then has lacked something. I liked SVR 2006, though.
I'd like to add that Just Bring It was one of the worst wrestling games that I've ever played. Especially the story mode.

HCTP is my favourite of the ones listed. Wicked Roster.

HCTP. Add the submission battles, tweak the grappling system, and was the last one to have the roaming backstage area (they should the backstage area back). All and all, the best game of the series, IMO.

HCTP by a monster mile over any other WWE game that's been put out before or since. The roster was great. It by far had the most advanced story mode of any Smackdown game. You could to through season mode a good 4 or 5 times and still not discovered every little story arc there is in the game. Plus it was the first game to have the elimination chamber.
It may be 5 or 6 years old now, but everytime I buy a new wrestling game, I always get tired of it after a while and will go back to playing HCTP. All my other wrestling games have been thrown out. But HCTP has been played and played and played. When you can pull out a game 6 years later, and still have a lot of fun with it, that says something.
If any WWE video game makers read this board, I have just one piece of advice for them. For your next game, try focusing more on a good story mode and less on advancing the sound and graphics.
Gotta go with SYM.
The story mode is untouchable.

lol I'm surprised a lot of people feel the same as me. HCTP IS by far the best SD! game ever produced. The roster, best season mode ever with the rankings/titles/matchups/backstage, also backstage roaming, and variety of moves. Plus the gameplay was faced pace and exciting. Man I miss those days.

I personally thought SvR 2006 was the best. The gameplay during the matches is the best that Yuke's has ever managed to do, and I don't understand why they got away from it with SvR 07 up until now.

What I also liked about here comes the pain is exchanging guys like gold dust to smack down for guys like brock lesner or "the big evil" The undertaker.

An old one, but Know Your Role should be on the list too. Still to this day, Know Your Role is the only one in the smackdown video game series that had 2 player season mode. My friend and I use to play it for hours, till we got tired of it.
I liked Shut your mouth, but walking around the arena all the time did get old after a while. I hated getting on the subway and going to the WWE club between every show just to see if somebody was there. Eventually I just said to hell with it and stopped going.
Here comes the pain is always gonna be my favorite though.

Know Your Role was a PS1 game...This poll/thread is strictly about the PS2 games.

I like Here Comes the Pain because the roster was ok it had a ton of moves in it. It seems like the SD games have less and less moves as they progressed over the years.
One thing that sold me was the destructable environments. It was just done very well. Now in backstage brawls of newer SD games you can only do certain things.
I find it damn exciting when you can explode a car by doing moves on it.
