Anyone else here played these games? I've been playing them since Episode 1 came out and I got EP3 and beat it when it came out. One of my favorite RPG series and has one of the best voice-acting casts ever.

Your thoughts?

Oh and Margulis was my favorite villain.

I love it. I own and beat all 3.

Have you played Xenogears for the original playstation? If you liked those games you will love this one. It's actually Episode 5 in the entire series I think.

Yes I played XG. It's not connected directly to XS though. See they couldn't really make a prequel to Xenogears because it's owned by Square and they were with Namco when they made Xenosaga.
They just recycled some names.

I'm in the middle of Episode 1. It's pretty damn good.

I gave up half way through Ep. 1. I was actually able to count a full 36 fucking minutes for 1 cutscene.

I sold that shit the next day.

I prefer a thirty minute cutscene of good voice-acting and music to the 30 minutes of text screens I had to scroll through back in the FFVII/FFVIII days myself.

Episode 1: Definitely one of my top ten games of all time, and probably in the top 5. Amazing music, great voice acting, brilliant story, fine gameplay.

Episode 2: Took me 4 times to beat due to the horrendous music and terrible gameplay. But, the story was again damn good, albeit short.

One of these days, I'll actually get my hands on episode 3. And Xenogears is number 1 on my list of "Games I need to play before I die".

Amen to that. Who cares if the cutscenes are 30-40 minutes so long as they're interesting? And every cutscene in Xenosaga holds importance to the overall story.
I'll take any of the 30+ minute cutscenes in Xenosaga over Final Fantasy X's 5 minute cutscene of Tidus teaching Yuna to whistle and laugh out loud :suspic:.

Now where's Novus? He should be stalking into this thread eventually.....

I started playing Xenogears and its weird, everything about the game interested me so much, from the cool battles, epic story, amazing music, great characters. But my number 1 mission these past months was to play through the FFs so i sorta stopped playing Xeno when i got to the battle prison arena type thingy. I am going to get back into it now i've finished FF8, hopefully the story is still fresh in my mind.

I don't recall one cutscene that reached 30 minutes unless you consider playing the flashback a cutscene (talking FF7).

Actually the only cutscene I recall being anywhere near 30 minutes long was when Tifa was trying to snap Cloud out of his little coma. But even then it was more like an interactive cutscene.

Xenosaga was plagued with unbearably long cutscenes and it ruined the game.

Plagued? The cut scenes were fucking amazing. Did you not enjoy the story? I was glued to it and couldn't stop watching it.

See, I saw Xenosaga as getting a videogame AND the first season of a TV show all in one.

What's not to like there?
If you like the game, and you like the show...... win-win.

Is it not true that they never even finished the storyline in the three games though? That sorta puts me off a bit...

I haven't beaten the Episode 1 yet, mainly due to the lack of time. BUT! Xenosaga Ep. 1 is my 2nd all time favorite RPG, right behind FFVIII. I LOVED everything about this game, from the story which is better than most tv shows and movies, to the awesome battle and weapons systems. I saw no drawback to this game and I will end up finishing it, I actually have Episode 2. just haven't gotten around to finishing the first =/.

If that's not what you're into, fine...but to me, Xenosaga I represented everything that was right with the gaming industry. People worked their asses off on that game, and you could tell. They actually cared about telling a big compelling story, composing the best music they could, finding decent voice actors, pushing graphical limits, and tying it all together into a package that serious RPG fans could appreciate.

Xenosaga I is still one of the best games I've ever played. With II, though, things kind of fell apart. The original creators ran out of money and were elbowed out of the process, and the result was a dull sequel with interminable combat, bad voice acting, some of the laziest in-game character models of the new millennium, a plot that had dropped several notches in quality, and the kind of music you'd hear in an elevator at the E3 Convention. It was such a disappointment I couldn't play through most of it. I just watched the cutscenes on Youtube.

Then we had Xenosaga III, which brought back some of EPI's glory, the best combat system of the series, good character models, and excellent graphics. But they were packing what should have been two or three more games' worth of story into one, and it showed. We'll probably never know what the Xenosaga series could have been. But at least I'll always have the first game...

The series was conceived as a 6 game series (with a lot of unsubstantiated speculation that game 5 was to be a remake a Xenogears). However, after the original creators were ousted, and Episode 2 had a less than enthusiastic reception from fans and critics alike (rightly so), the decision was made to cut the series in half, and wrap up as many plotlines as possible in Episode 3.

However (from what I hear), while Episode 3, while it ends with suitable finality, ends openly enough that the series could be continued in the future.

Damn. I need to play that game sometime.....
